The Kéo Blade is a mechanically revolutionary new pedal that changes the way clipless pedals feel and perform. The innovation of this pedal is driven by safety, lightness, comfort, efficiency and reliability.
The concept: a carbon leaf spring (blade) replaces the traditional wound wire cleat retention spring.
POSITIVE CLEAT ENGAGEMENT AND DISENGAGEMENT: The new concept of the Keo Blade Carbon Ti is based on a carbon blade spring, which provides a 30% higher linear spring tension feel than the 2009 Keo Carbon. The result is a more positive spring rate feeling, allowing a more distinct entry and release.
These advantages make the pedal very secure, allowing the removal of the spring tension adjustment. However to satisfy all cyclists, 2 different spring tension blades are available for the Keo Blade Ti: 12Nm, which will suit most cyclists, and 16Nm for racers seeking even higher tension.
VERY LIGHT WEIGHT(95g): The use of the Blade concept, combined with a new material injected with longer carbon fibres allows us to maintain a weight of 95g, while still improving its strength and durability. This new material blend uses carbon fibres of over 10mm in length, where previous bodies were limited to only 1mm to 2mm.
WIDE PLATFORM AND LARGER PLATFORM SURFACE AREA: For an even more efficient pedal and greater stability, the Keo Blade Carbon has a pedal platform that is 31% larger in surface area, and more importantly, 17 % wider than a Keo Carbon. To further improve power transmission and to extend the pedal's service life, the platform now features an over-moulded stainless steel plate in the body of the pedal.
EXTREMELY RELIABLE: Special attention was paid to reliability: very durable body, bi-injected lever, a new STAINLESS STEEL platform area, a new oversized axle and triple bearings make this pedal an extremely safe and durable pedal. Bi-injected lever : the lever's two materials have very specific roles: one brings an excellent mechanical behaviour, while the other reduces cleat friction.
KEO BLADE CARBON Ti AXLE PROFILE: The new oversized Kéo Blade Carbon Ti axle maintains a minimum overall stack height. It is composed of 2 miniature roller bearings (12 mm interior x 18 mm exterior) and a needle bearing. LOOK axles are only validated for production after a rotational test of 1 million cycles at 100 rpm, with a load of 90kg on the centre of the pedal, as well as an off-centre rotation (which creates a shock at each rotation). This test is more stringent than the most demanding standard currently enforced: EN1047Bl.
Dual seals ensure a very long service life of the roller bearings.
Q-FACTOR SETTINGS: Keo Blade Ti axle threads are now 14mm in length. This allows a Q-Factor adjustment an additional 2mm using a specific spacer, available as a spare part. It can increase the Q Factor measurement from 53 to 55mm.

The carbon is probably stronger than previously, and on my other KEO's I haven't noticed a great deal of abrasion.
Generally, if I lean over significantly, e.g. on mountain descents, I don't pedal in the turn.

However, the noise produced by the cleat supplied is intolerable (it rubs and produces a loud howling). You will need to purchase the teflon reinforced cleats to get a quiet ride.
Thanks

They are easy to get in and out of.
the pedals do not come with lighter tension blades

For easy disengagement, Shimano at its lowest spring tension or LOOK 12Nm carbon blade ?

However, the other KEO's I have owned (12 years this has been my pedal of choice) I rode dialed to the highest setting.
The 12 nm is stiffer than that setting by a factor of 2.

85kg x 2.2 = 187lbs = 13 stone 5lbs
100kg = 220lbs = 15 stone 10lbs (max)
These pedals are quite wide approx 86mm from mounting surface and I guess this may well effect the ground clearance but gives a huge stable platform for getting the power down. The Q factor can be increased even further with 2mm spacers if so desired. I understand 12Nm are required for the majority and 16Nm for the face / Tri guys & girls. These Spring blades appear to be interchangeable to. Hope this helps.
