About Energy & Recovery Gels
Energy gels are consumed by athletes or other physically active people to maintain their calorific needs in light of their strenuous physical activity. They contain complex carbohydrates and are often sold in various fruit flavours, most are in sachet format with a tear off lid for ease of use.

Lucozade energy was first produced in 1927 by a Newcastle chemist who experimented for years to provide a source of energy that was acceptable to those who were sick. With its refreshing taste, golden colour and specially formulated glucose syrup, it became available throughout the UK for use in hospitals and went under the name of Glucozade, which was changed to Lucozade in 1929. The product was sold in large glass bottles with a yellow cellophane wrap as the only available pack until the first new packaging – 250ml bottles with re-sealable tops – were introduced in 1980. The product had been used and advertised as a convalescent drink for about 50 years, until it was realised that people could benefit from its energy giving properties when not ill. 76 years of evolution has seen Lucozade energy grow from a regional drink for convalescents to an iconic energy drink regarded with great affection by drinkers, in fact more bottles of Lucozade energy are sold each year than any other ‘energy drinks’ throughout the UK and Ireland.
