The dip of the hooks (where the bike rests) would be approx 33/34 cms from the wall.
As long as your handlebars are no wider than 66cm in total then you should be ok.
Note the hook cannot account your your front wheels tendency to fall one way or the other when hung up (if that makes sense)
It may just be the way I have set it up, but my front wheel always wants to flop one way or the other, slightly. So I have my brake caliper touching the wall.

Would you recommend it for a mountain bike and would it save me adjusting the handle bars, to make it flat against the wall, every time I wanted to store it?
ie enough distance between the wall and the frame so the wheel doesn't stick out into the room?

The handle bars will stick out but if you hang it high enough that won't be a problem.
