I normally have a T-Shirt or a base layer under the pouch.
At the back, there is a meshy material over a thin layer of sponge, which covers the same material as it's on the photo.
The main material looks very waterproof to me, so your mobile will be in a waterproof pocket.
I just did 2.5 hours run wearing a pouch, and I ran previously in a light rain, and had about 10 other runs with it, and my mobile was fine.
