Top Features of the Mizuno Ladies Wave Ultima 4 Shoes aw12
One of Mizuno’s most popular shoes due to its superior performance and value for money, the first Wave Ultima was launched in Autumn 2009 and is now replaced by a completely new shoe - the Wave Ultima 4.
- Wave Ultima 4 update: New colourway
- Ladies
The Ultima 4 keeps the same simple formula of great cushioning and support but has been upgraded with Mizuno’s premium midsole polymer AP+, which delivers an even springier cushioned and durable ride. Cushioning is maximised through generous pads of VS-1 shock-absorbing compound in the forefoot and heel.
In addition, the forefoot sole has been specifically engineered to be as versatile as its owner so the Ultima 4 is equally at home on roads, grass, or canal tow paths. The Parallel Wave inside the Ultima 4 contributes to this versatility, uniformly dispersing shock throughout the sole and providing excellent cushioning along with enhanced stability.
Not only has the technology pushed forward, the fit has been enhanced with all Ultima 4 upper materials upgraded to provide Mizuno’s signature super-comfortable and supportive fit.
All in all the result is a shoe that is packed with performance and value, ideal for neutral runners and moderate pronators alike.

The Tech: Revolutionary New Midsole material. Lighter weight with increased cushioning durability. AP+ (Acceleration Polymer) only losses 20% of its cushioning after 600km. All Midsoles have a mileage as over time the material compresses. Mizuno's new AP+ Midsole takes longer to compress, therefore staying more cushioned for longer.
What it does: The AP+ Midsole provides a lighter more cushioned trainer for longer. |
About Cushion Running Shoes
To determine the correct type of running shoe for your feet, use the tried and tested "wet foot test". Dip your foot into water and then stand on a surface that will show your footprint - a towel or piece of paper or cardboard. The shape of your wet footprint indicates the amount of stability you might need in your shoe.
If your footprint looks like the one on the right (with a very narrow band or no band at all between the forefoot and the heel) then you should choose shoes from the cushion category on this page Cushioned shoes generally have the softest midsoles and the least added stability. They're built on a semicurved or curved last to encourage foot motion, which is helpful for runners who have rigid, immobile feet (underpronators). You should buy these if you're an efficient runner whose feet don't roll inwards excessively (overpronate) when you run.
