About Flat Pedals

Flat pedals are ideal for those not wanting to use a clipless pedal system, they provide a large grippy platform for normal shoes to grip too. You can fit toe clips and straps to some flat pedals to benefit from pulling upwards when pedalling on hills or accelerating, these tend to be more for road/commuting use. Generally the main use for most types of this pedal now is Freeride or Downhill where quick placement and removal of the foot is essential.

Good alternative to folding pedals I bought these because I had ongoing quality problems with the folding pedals that my folding bike came with originally (bearings kept getting wrecked by the folding action). I absolutely love these pedals. It was a hard decision considering they are rather pricey, but after over 6 months' use including in winter conditions, I have been convinced by their robustness and simplicity. It is a simple matter to remove one or both pedals in seconds as required by the situation. I found that the twisting action required to lock or unlock the pedals took a bit of getting used to, but it is now second nature. Also, the adapter sometimes sticks a bit, but I think maybe a dab of grease would take care of this. 01 July 2010

Great anti-theft device I put these on a brand new thief-eye-candy mountain bike, and now find that I can lock the bike in a high traffic area, disconnect the pedals and take them with me in seconds. Nice to see you get a handy bag included. The pedals themselves are excellent, quality rollers- par for MKS. My two reasons for not giving them an excellent rating is that the 'push in, twist, turn mechanism" was a little sticky from the moment I took it out of the box- this translates to moments becoming minutes when trying to remove the pedals for the first time- I was beginning to look a thief I'm sure, as I struggled to remove and replace the pedals the first time I locked my bike up on the street. A bit lube and a modification in removal/replacement technique however improved this. Otherwise, impressed! 10 September 2012

A perfect solution Very easy to use: you just twist the cap on the pedal then pop it out. If you don't know that they are removable, you feel just a very good lightweight flat pedal. Very different from the usual folding pedals. 09 March 2011
