I'm a road cyclist and now that winter and darkness are fast approaching I don't only want to be seen I also want to see something myself. Therefore I need a product that throws strong light. Is this one of them?

In brightest mode, at low speed there is a reasonable pool of light on a very dark road surface for a couple of hours at most! It's more a "be seen" light than a way-finder.

Most phone chargers nowadays have a detachable socket-usb that you can use, or you can buy them for ~£2 online.

Yes, the tough rubber stretch strap fits quite easily through the vent holes on the top of an ordinary Giro helmet. It needs to be tilted quite far back to counter the slight head down angle of a determined commuter.
