About Rear Lights

Almost all bicycle rear lights use LEDs instead of filament bulbs as they are more reliable and use much less battery power, whilst also offering much higher levels of brightness. Used in flashing mode, they are very good at attracting attention from other road users. It's advisable to use at least two rear bike lights, a common configuration is one flashing and one in constant, this is highly advisable just in case one stops or becomes obscured.

In order to cycle on the road it may be a legal requirement in your country to use a light certified to a specific standard or an international equivalent. Most but not all lights sold on Wiggle are certified and labelled with a European CEN standard. Please check your country’s requirements to see if this is sufficient and if necessary contact the manufacturer to see if this light has been additionally certified for your country. Strangely some of the very best lights are not legal on their own and should be used with an additional legal backup light.

Lovely piece of kit I bought this rear light to make myself more visible on those long winter nights. It certainly does this - the light is intense. The steady flashing mode is all that is needed - I found drivers giving me a much wider berth when passing me. Nice rechargeable function with a standard mini-USB connector. The on switch is a bit fiddly - I could not operate it with gloves on. Overall - highly recommended. 01 May 2013

Bright and simple great value light, simple to use, rechargeable with standard USB and plenty bright enough! The seat post strap is easy to use and remove if you want. I have drenched it a few times and it has been fine despite some water getting into the recharging slot. The rubber cover keeps the dirt out well though. 23 April 2013

Nice compact light This is small and light, and very bright. This is so bright, I have had people ask me at traffic lights what make/model it is, when I only use it on the dim setting. Two downsides, the battery cannot be replaced, so when that dies, so does the light. This leads to guessing how often to charge it, to avoid charging two often, and it running out halfway home. The other issue is that the tool-free bracket is (as usual) a bit rubbish. But the quality of the rest of the light makes up for this. 17 April 2013

Moon Shield 60 Rear Light Fitting

Hi there,can the Moon Shield 60 Rear Light be fitted onto the loop at the end of my saddlebag?..... opposed to a seatpost as i do not have any room on the seatpost.

Answer:

I fitted it to the loop and lost it as I went through a pot hole. I realised when I got home, next day found it in the gutter squashed.
I therefore don't recommend fitting it to a bag.

Yes you can hook it over the loop on a saddlebag. Although, I prefer to attach it to the rear stays as I find that more secure when riding on rough trails/roads.

it can be stuck on a saddle bag loop as it has a belt clip. the clip is not spring-loaded so you'd probably want to use a couple of elastic bands to keep it secure over bumps.

The light has a slide in clip, it can not be fitted to seat post, i.e. slip it into the back pocket of your cycling jersey

Yes, that is exactly how I use this light. It has a secure clip for loops on saddle bags. Mine is fitted to a Fizik Saddle Bag.

Harvey - yes, you can. The Moon Shield has a clip approximately 1" long which fits just fine on a saddlebag loop. However, the clip is not very long and does not hold the light very securely compared to other lights such as the Smart 1/2w.

My first light stopped working after a week and was filled with condensation. So sent it back, got a replacement. I've had the new one for 4 weeks now, ridden through all sorts of bad weather and its still working.

I would guess probably not as the bracket / clip is not likely to go small enough for the diameter of the struts in your rack.

If your rack has a bracket at the back for a bike light it will fit around that. Otherwise you can loop it around the actual rack, only the light will be loose and face down to the road. A small piece of rubber would help keep it in place.

It would depend how thick the rack tubes are. It fits well on a thin seat stays so should fit a rack too.

The mounting bracket is long enough for a seat stay as it is designed for a standard seatpost. The bracket has a function to adjust the angle of the light, so mounting to the seat stay will be OK.

I contacted Moon via their website who forwarded my request to Raleigh UK. They are sending a replacement part.

Good service from Moon/Raleigh as I was disappointed that potentially a £40 light could be scrapped.
