GPS receivers are now made waterproof, lightweight and small enough to fit on a bike easily. There are 2 basic choices to take on your bike: a GPS unit designed primarily for navigation with a dedicated bike mount, particularly suitable for cycle touring and finding your way in unfamiliar territory, like the Garmin eTrex Vista Cx; or a dedicated bike computer that uses GPS to track your training routes and provide detailed analysis of your workout like the Edge 305, with more limited navigation capabilities. Most units come with only very basic maps installed and you may need to purchase more detailed maps for your area to be loaded onto the unit for navigation.

A GPS watch and music player in one?! Impressive... GPS pick-up and accuracy are spot on, and you can sync this data to motoactv.com for training analysis. Heart-rate function requires a (not included) chest strap, though its ANT+ capacity means it works with a Garmin strap. You can use it for the bike, too, though the touchscreen doesn't work with gloves. It's also a music player (8GB). Sound is good; its syncing with iTunes or Window Media Player is great. That said, the headphone wire flaps about as it's on your wrist (though wireless phones would rectify that). Since we began testing, Motorola has launched several updates, including upping the battery life to 8 hrs. The only negative is the flimsy cover over the USB port, which raises waterproofing concerns.
In conclusion...
Fine training tool; swim-capacity would elevate it to the Garmin 910XT status.
