Tough & versatile "Recommended by my mechanic for my steel-framed commuting hybrid, this must be the most economical option on the market for a high-mileage workhorse of a bike. Not the lightest but for my purposes they are spot on. Early days yet but so far so good." 18 April 2011

All wheels should be built this way! Good strong wheel, using quality components, at a good price - what more do you want? I've popped three spokes in the last six months, and finally the rim on my existing wheel cracked! Granted, I'm quite heavy (210lbs) and I often have my daughter's trailer-bike attached to the back, so my rear wheel takes a bit of strain - but the wheels that come with mass produced bikes just aren't very good. When I talked to local bike shops about a replacement set of wheels they all wanted to sell me their lightweight carbon wheels, with about 16 flat spokes! Then I found these wheels on Wiggle - problem solved. Mavic A319 rim is one of the strongest around, Deore hub is basic but durable, and 36 plain guage spokes in a 3 cross pattern should be tough as anything. My only niggle is I'd prefer double butted spokes, to give a bit more flex with the same strength, but thats a small point. If strength and durability are more important to you than saving that last few grams of weight, then you can't go wrong with these excellent wheels. 30 October 2009

Solid as a rock! Bought this as a replacement for commuter bike. Was looking for something that was solid and durable and have not been disappointed. Notices an immediate difference when put it on. Bike feels much more solid and stable and after 6 months of constant use no signs of any buckles. Will definitely by front wheel version when the time comes. 17 November 2012

The ultimate touring wheel 15000 miles ago, I fitted an M:Wheel 719 to the front of my Dawes Galaxy and amazingly, it is still true. So when the rim of my back wheel was shredded (a combination of high tyre pressure and many years of brake wear), I fitted this and look forward to the same reliable service. 29 October 2012

These wheels don't come with rim tape, and the Mavic web site says they need 19mm. However, watch out because Wiggle and all my LBSs only sell 17mm for 'road' wheels and 22/23mm for MTB. I ended up using the 17mm and it seems to cover the spoke holes ok.

The cassette would fit fine. However, the rims are 25mm wide and the minimum size tyre that can be fitted is 28mm. Many road bikes have very tight clearances under brakes and between rear stays so pass this wheel by if you have 23mm tyres.

Not sure but it is a "heavy wheel" I have in on my go to work bike and it takes a lot of punishment and just keeps on going. It is not light weight but not too heavy either. I hope this helps I have done 4,000 hard commuting K's on the back one so far without any problems
