The roots of the Movistar cycling team can be traced back to 1980 under Reynolds Cycle technology sponsorship with names like Miguel Indurain gracing the roster and the podium. The 90’s saw a host of victories under Banesto sponsorship including the Giro d’Italia and Tour de France during Indurain’s domination of pro cycling. Fast forward to 2012, after 2 main sponsorship changes (Illes Balears and Caisse d'Epargne) the Spanish team are a major force across the pro cycling calendar. This year Movistar have already claimed stage wins in the tour down under and overall victories in the Vuelta a Andalucia, and Vuelta a Murcia with Alejandro Valverde and Nairo Quintana on the top steps of the podium. The deep blue and bright green of the Movistar kit will continue to be the pride of Spanish cycling and strong contenders in the grand tours and spring classics.
