NiteRider MiNewt 200 LED Front Light
The third generation MiNewt receives a new name and power boost of 30% in 2010, increasing light output to 200 measured lumens! The best part of the power increase is that it comes without sacrificing run time.
Due to the increased efficiency of the new LED, run times stay consistent with last year. How about that? More power with the same run time, almost seems like magic.
In addition to increased output, the MiNewt.200's cast aluminium head unit also receives a new color for 2010 making it instantly recognizable as the most powerful MiNewt ever offered! The translucent seal on the head unit also changes colour to indicate battery level, so you are never left in the dark. With their durable finish and cooling fins for heat dissipation, the heads are a stylish envelope for the incredibly bright LED inside.
The light from the Minewt.200 LED is captured and focused using a specially developed reflector and then transmitted through a low-loss borofloat glass lens to ensure that almost all the light generated makes it's way to the trail in front of you. The LED itself can be switched from high to low to flash mode. High is bright enough for the most technical trails, Low mode will double the burn time yet still put out 100 lumens and flash mode will see cars pulling to the side when you come up behind them!
Cycle light technology has moved on greatly over the years, traditional 'bulb' lights have been more or less replaced by LED and HID systems. Battery, lens and reflector technology has been improved greatly resulting in brighter and longer run times. Wiggle lists a large selection of bicycle lights suitable for lit streets in the city, or unlit country lanes and even bike lights suitable for off road riding, ranging from around £8 to over £300 they vary greatly in purpose and performance. Tiny LED's with flashing or constant modes are great for being seen in built up areas, whilst rechargeable systems can keep the road or off-road trails lit up for non-stop riding at night.

Just under the 200 quid mark gets you a light with a great beam pattern, enough power to give you a good long look down the trail/road ahead, and a run time of nearly three-and-a-half hours. And... it all weighs in at less than 250g.
One neat little design touch is the switch on the battery which glows blue, along with the seal section of the light unit itself, until battery capacity drops down to 15 percent or less, when both the button and the seal light on the head unit turn red - giving you plenty of warning to switch to low power mode or recharge/swap batteries.
You get three simple modes: high, low and flashing, along with simple and quick fitting. The MiNewt.200 is a really tough little light setup that's great for riding with and doesn't weight much at all. There's not much else to say other than that this is a little gem of a front light, at a more realistic price than many.
