The Expeditions come in at the top of the price bracket, rubbing shoulders with shoulders with Shimano's popular MT90 Gore-Tex boots(£115). Quality is excellent, with a Gore-Tex XCR lining for waterproofing - it's relatively breathable too, helped by the thin and lightweight mesh outer fabric. The front and rear of the shoe is reinforced, protecting it from hiking scuffs. A quick lace system with a toggle closure replaces conventional laces, and a velcro strap stops the end from flapping about. All our men's shoes were tested in a 44 - the Expeditions have a roomier, unpadded cut that needed a pair of thick socks to get a snug, efficient fit, particularly around the forefoot. A seriously chunky and relatively stiff Vibram sole singles the Expedition out as perfect hiking shoes - even if it does weigh them down a bit - and the cleat clearence is very good.
In conclusion...
Ideal hiking/biking shoe with a great vibram sole - on the roomy side.
