nuun is a hydration solution for anyone active. We all know we need to drink more and that staying hydrated is key to optimal performance. Did you know that a 2% loss in body fluids (i.e. through sweating) can equal a 20% loss in performance? Through high activity one can easily sweat this amount in an hour. Therefore it's vital to stay properly hydrated.
This is where nuun comes in. It's the simplest hydration solution we've ever come across. It comes as a tube containing 12 effervescent tablets making a total of 6 litres of fluid. Drop one tablet in each 500ml water bottle, give it two minutes to fizz up and when it's gone flat, drink up. The mix of electrolytes are spot on to ensure rapid absorption in your gut and for once the flavour is palatable, even refreshing.
The key to this is the lack of any sugar to aggravate your stomach or make your bottles and hydration bladders sticky and green. Imagine being out on a long run or ride, or being in the gym. Rather than settle for water or buy a sugary drink from a corner shop, you just fill up your water bottle and drop in a nuun tablet. By the time you've tied your laces or put on your pack, you've got a complex electrolyte drink that recharges your salts, but is refreshing and more efficiently absorbed than water alone (as it's isotonic) or most sports drinks on the market.
nuun comes in a tough water resistant tube that is perfect for carrying in your hand, bike jersey, pack…wherever. 1 tube = 6 litres, enough for a good ride or a week at the gym and if you travel, forget trying to find your normal drink or suffering the nightmare of bags of powder bursting in your luggage, when a couple of tubes of nuun in your bags will get there in one piece and get you through the week of training or racing.
nuun has been a huge success with those competing in cycling, triathlon, running and adventure racing and but is just as relevant to the office worker or clubber looking for a hangover cure!
A bottle of water, 1 nuun per 500ml making it easy to balance fluid and electrolyte… doesn't matter where you are, how windy it is, how much space you've got - drop in nuun and you're good to go. It provides the easiest way to keep your electrolytes in balance. nuun has no carbohydrate so great for those on low carb diets. Perfect nutrition for the gym, cycling, running, adventure racing, kayaking, rugby, rowing, triathlon, football, swimming, the office worker, the clubber....everyone!
About the Nuun brand
nuun (pronounced ‘noon’) was originally the brainchild of a student and professor from the tuck school, dartmouth college’s business program. New England was great for fall cycling, but the two became frustrated in their search for an electrolyte hydration solution to use in remote places. they longed for a lightweight, easily-dissolvable product that was free of carbohydrates. Dissatisfied by pre-made and powdered options on the market, they set about developing their own solution. the answer came in the form of a simple tab that would come to be known as “nuun”. Fast forward a couple years, past endless sample versions (including those that dissolved slower than granite) and nuun is pioneering portable electrolyte hydration for athletes and those with active lifestyles. just drop a nuun tab in your water bottle whether running, cycling, hiking, adventure racing, kayaking, golfing, or traveling, and store the tube in your jersey pocket or pack.
nuun turns every water fountain into a source of optimal, balanced hydration.

I can strongly reccomend Nuun tabs.
So the apporximate shelf life is 3 years...
The taste is not very strong but might leave a hint for a couple of fills after if you use clear water.
A tip: Between bladder usage, put the bladder in the freezer. Microbes can't grow in a freezer. Just make sure to take it out to thaw a bit before you need to use it (and it might even cool down your first drink a bit).
A search of Nunn's site provided this
Other ingredients: citric acid, sorbitol, sodium carbonate, natural colors flavors, sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, polyethylene glycol, magnesium sulfate, sodium benzoate, calcium carbonate, acesulfame potassium, riboflavin-5-phosphate.
So I think the other Nuun products have sorbitol too.
I also found that Nuun make a range of tablets called 'U Natural' - which contain stevia for sweetness, and a lower level of electrolytes that their Active Hydration range. (Not available from Wiggle, but I did find an alternative supplier in the UK.)
Why don't you try making your own hydration drink?
Google "homemade hydration drink recipe" or something like that. I make my own home-made energy gels that perform as good as any artificial ones.
I've just done a 6 hour ride and used it all through. Would probably change if I was to do more than a day of riding, but I'd change the water there anyway.

If you want a good alternative with no flavor added try the High 5 tablets as they have a flavor-less version with all the same electrolytes.
