About Compression Base Layers

Compression base layers enhance performance in training, competing and recovery, and are designed to reduce the quick build up of lactic acid in the muscles, whilst keeping you comfortable and dry during exercise by wicking moisture away from your skin. Body moulded compression garments also improve recovery after periods of sustained exercise and help to regulate your body temperature. Compression baselayers also help prevent muscle oscillation which leads to muscle fatigue and help to minimise muscle soreness.

About the Orca brand

Whilst working as a swim coach, and from his first hand experience in competing in triathlon, Scott Unsworth realised that the wetsuits used at the time were completely inadequate for swimming. In 1992 Scott started up a company called Performance Speedsuits Ltd, based out of his parent's house in Auckland, New Zealand. He began to develop his "Speedsuits", which featured greater flexibility and buoyancy than other existing wetsuits. The business started with Scott selling his Speedsuits from the back of his car at swim meets and triathlon events. The Speedsuits quickly gained a following amongst athletes and the business started to grow. Scott was taking his first steps towards introducing what would become Orca, to the world. A young New Zealand triathlete named Hamish Carter became one of the first athletes to sign up with the company that is now Orca. Over the next 13 years Hamish Carter went on to become one of the best known triathletes in the world - culminating in a gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

excellent compression but fitting issue the material is really good , nice feature at the knee joint , very strong compression all over , but very difficult to put them on and go through the foot and calf , risking to damage the tight . You need to take the size above the indicated scale , it is still low on the waist , not allowing to benefit correctly from the special compression design . I am not the only one noting the issue , which is a shame for such a product that would be excellent . Try it but be prepared to send it back . 09 December 2012

I own a pair of 2XU:s and comparing to those the Orcas are much more comfortable, especially at the knee-joint. They dont "push" at the backside of the knee thus not altering your running technique as I felt the 2XU:s did. They also dont feel as "stable" as the 2XU wich was a good thing as I wanted the compression without all the joint-stabilizing wich only altered my technique in the 2XU. The downside is that they take me 5 minutes to put on . In the beginning before I lurned the best technique it took me 10 minutes to force them on. I also think the calf-area is way to much compressed comparing to the rest of the leg. It almost hurt my medium/ small sized calfes in the beginning. All in all a great tight for both training and recovery! Highly recomended. 04 December 2012

High compression Ok, so I ordered 2 pairs of these. I'm about 6 ft 1, 12.5 stone, inside led of 33 inches and a 32 inch waist. The medium i couldn't even get on. The Large I got on. But note these provide the highest compression of all the tights i have tried especially around the calf which is a good thing for me. Even more compression than the 2XU. They have a nice feature behind the knees that stop the material gathering. However, and this is only relative to my height i guess, they came up just an inch or two short for me. There is just a waist band with no string / tie and for me, with the knee sections in place, the thigh section was about 2 inches too short. Thus the groin of the tights were pulling down and although i could pull them right up I just felt like when i started moving and potentially running they'd start to pull down. Ok i don't think they'd pull down to reveal anything but probably just to a point of annoying me while running. They also have a nice soft material in the gusset for commando running. Of all the tights I tried on these were my favourite for design and compression but unfortunately they just come up a bit short for me and so are being sent back. If you're 5.11 and shorted then go for these they're great (maybe go up a size if unsure). But it would be nice for them to come in sizings like 2XU or regular and long! Shame. But they're still a 5* product but just not for me at over 6 foot.. 16 November 2012

Definite improvement I have a pair of the previous version of this tight and the only thing I didn't like was the tightness at the back of the knee. This new version has fixed that and it's much more comfortable to wear. The compression is as good as ever and they're just as difficult as ever to get on :-). Small seems to be a tad smaller than before. Some other minor comments: Good - Replaced the weird zipper box with something recyclable. Questionable: material seems shinier than before and they've added a key pocket on the back right - some people may want that I suppose. 22 June 2012

Size fit

I'm 5 ft 11" and 73kg, with 31 inch waist, and am wondering what size to get? I would have gone with small size (just like my 2XU compression tights), but 2 of your reviewers are suggesting that it runs small, so I'm torn btw size small and medium. Thks.

i am same size , 70kg , 33 waist and i had to replace the M by an L ;

it is still however difficult to put in on at the level of the feet and calf 38cm and more importantly , keeping it at the waist while running . For me there is still 2cm missing at the groin / waist level to fit well as the compression is still much tighter than for 2XU . So what is also important for you , is the inside length of legs which is 83 cm for me .Note that there is no lace at the waist . good luck

Why advertise what you can't supply?

These tights are advertised as 'usually despatched in 2-7 days' but you haven't any in stock, your UK supplier hasn't got any and Orca say that there won't be any stock available in the UK until sometime in April.

they're advertised still, because they're not discontinued - they can still get them in stock. And although they state the usual dispatch timeframe, they also state that they'll have the stock in late April when making your purchase. No big deal mate. Have some patience. They're alot better with the communication than aalot of other sites.
