The lockable mounting block allows the attachment of ORTLIEB handle bar bags Utimate 2-5 to any type of handlebar. The mounting cable with fixation hooks can be secured simply and fast.

The reflective foil at the mounting block increases safety in traffic. The Ultimate5 adapter is compatible with the VRO extension by Syntace. Extension adapter and replacement cable are available as accessories.

Useful bit of kit, works well. This was bought to put on my other bike, so i can just transfer the Ortleib barbag easily. It is easy to put on, took only a few minutes, instructions are clear, it locks the barbag on so it won't fly off accidentally. Good value I thought. 04 November 2009

Suitable for carbon bars This mounting states that it should not be used on carbon fibre handlebars, presumably because it has extremely high stress loads under the wire cords used to secure the mount to the bars. I have taken this consideration into account as I wish to use my bag for carrying my SLR digital camera, especially on holidays. I have used portions of wide hose clamps, wrapping them around the bars and being careful to make sure the wire cords have their load placed across the clamps and not on the carbon. This has worked very well. Make sure you don't have a carbon only stem and I can recommend them very highly. 29 February 2012

Is bracket easily removed/replaced?

Can the bracket be easily removed from handlebars and replaced when needed, or is it a permanent type of attachment? I want to be able to remove it completely from the bike when not needed...

I would buy one for each bike you are planning to use it on. I ( and others here ) have casued damage to the mount while removing it.

You can remove it, but the cable will be chewed up and you probably won't be able to get it back on without buying another cable.

I managed to remove it and put it back on again, but in the process it became so mangled up that I had to buy a new mount set.

You would need to leave a small amount of cable, and use a pair of pliers to reinstall

You need to unscrew the attachment to remove it so no it is not easily removed, can take a few minutes to fully remove from the bars.

Can i use a bar bag on straight bars?

How far from the bars does the standard ortleib mounting put the bar bag? How long is the mount extender. I have straight bars with rapid fire type levers with cables in the way.

The standard bracket is 9cm wide and sticks out from the front of the bars by 6cm, and the bag hangs down pretty straight from that, so its going to be pretty tight, depending on how wide your bars are.

The cable gets chewed preety quickly if you have to remove it for any reason.

Unfortunately we don't stock the cables separately. You can order a replacement bracket for the bag which does come with the cable and spacers.

Can you remove handlebars with mounting in place

I need a replacement handlebar mount for a 7 year old Ortlieb bar bag. It appears that the fixing cables for the new Ortlieb mounting go round the stem of the handlebars. As I need to remove the bars regularly for transporting the bike in a bike bag, can this be done or would it be better to use another mounting such as Klickfix?

Answer:

You can remove the mounting with an allen key in a couple of minutes. When you first fit the mount you leave around 80mm of cable at the end and push it back into the mount out of the way, so there is plenty there to get a hold off to remove and refit.

I can confirm that these can be used with trekking bars as the mount holds the bag far enough forward for there to be enough room for your hands on the cross top brakes. I hope this helps.
