Shimano's M324s have always been a popular touring an commuting pedal. The new A530s work on a similar principle. The single-sided SPD offers a very broad platform - ideal for leisure shoes, which typically have more flexible soles than conventional race-shoes, while the flat side means you can also use the flat side with normal trainers for heading down to the pub, or as a back-up if your SPD's fail while on tour. There's adjustment in the spring tension of the SPD mechanism, so those new to the wonders of clipless pedals can slowly build up confidence, though I found there's a bit less float in the design - perhaps an issue for those with knee complaints. Cup and cone bearings ensure a long service life - we've been racking up touring and commuting miles on ours without any problems.
A simple, light pedal that will suit leisure riders and those new to clipless riding.
