The 271g Decibel is one of the lightest and coolest lids out there, combining a good air flow system with deep internal channeling throughout. This is made possible by a carbon-re-inforced inner structure, which Specialized call the Inner Matrix, running through the inner shell to retain strength. That said, comfort isn't compromised and the simple push and adjust PRO fit retention system works superbly. Overall the Decibel is very cool and light so it's a winner for XC racing or long periods in the saddle
Light, cool and comfy top-end race lid
As usual for Specialized, the Decibel is a seriously stylish piece of kit right down to the carbon fibre protective ribs between the massive vents. Don't be misled by the apparent low nmber of vents either, as each of the main ones is a massive air-gulping chasm. Huge exhaust vents at the back help to drag fresh air across you sweaty skull like a head-mounted hoover...it's a reassuringly solid and cpnfident-feeling lid. The height and girth adjustable Brain Trust headlock keeps it well anchored, and the straps are set into the shell for easy access.
Stylish and very well vented lid, but not particularly cheap.
It has somewhat aggressive styling, lending it more extreme looks than typical helmets though the removable front visor means it's versatile and good for both road riding and mtb-ing. There's a decent amount of padding and it's stood up to months of abuse with hardly a mark.
Well vented, sharp looking, comfortable lid. But we'd like it made to a more robust standard.
This is Specialized's top-end road helmet...it features carbon re-inforced ribs that criss-cross the EPS structure to improve strength while allowing for greater ventillation...despite its looks the Decibel is remarkably light.
Lightweight, cutting-edge technology with superb venting
A carbon inner matrix acts like a reinforcing skeleton and has allowed specialized to whittle even more material out of the vents, making for a cooler helmet without compromising safety...a large front vent, first introduced on the Pirahna Pro, draws air into the helmet and an array of exhaust vents guarantee a constant airflow over your head.
all in all the decibel is a comfortable lid.
