Focus bikes are renowned for their cross bikes, with many a world championship being won on them since 2005. They offer exceptional pound for pound performance and are an ideal choice for cross or even as a winter hack.

New for 2009, the Focus Mares Pro uses Carbon Fibre technology and Shimano’s Ultegra components to provide a top quality Cyclo-Cross bike for all weathers and conditions.

The Focus Mares Pro frame is built using the latest Carbon Tecnologies (UD - Uni-Directional) and with increased stiffness in the bottom bracket area, due to the oversized bottom bracket shell and tapered seat tube, gives the bike more efficient power transfer and comfort when under load. Other features include a tapered fork design, increased stiffness in the head tube and an oversized fork head giving you more braking performance via the Avid Shorty Four brakes. Shimano’s Ultegra Sti’s provide you with precise and quick shifting whilst the FSA SLK compact chainset, coupled with a 12-27T cassette, provides all the gearing you need to get you through the race. DT Swiss's R-1900 wheels wrapped in Schwalbe’s grippy Racing Ralph 35mm wide tyres will provide all the grip you need to keep you upright even when the terrain gets tough. Focus bikes have been tested and ridden to cyclocross victory by world champions since 2005 and no-one understands the needs of cyclocross riders better than these world class riders and Focus’s design team. Each bike is crafted to use the very best components at a price that won't break the bank.

About Cyclocross Bikes

Cyclocross bikes are similar to road bike, they are lightweight, with narrow tyres and drop handlebars. However, they also share characteristics with mountain bicycles in that they utilize knobby treaded tyres for traction, and cantilever style brakes for the clearance needed due to muddy conditions. They have to be lightweight because competitors need to carry their bicycle to overcome barriers or slopes too steep to climb in the saddle. The sight of competitors struggling up a muddy slope with bicycles on their shoulders is the classic image of the sport, although un-ridable sections are generally a very small fraction of the race distance. Cross bikes also make good winter bikes or commuters, their frames have plenty of clearance which allows for mudguards, while the upright angles make them agile around town, meaning you can hit the trails at the weekend and then fit some road tyres and commute on them during the week.
