Trainer. Navigator. Edge 705 pushes you to do your best, then shows you the way back. This GPS-enabled cycle computer knows no limits. Get heart rate, cadence, turn-by-turn directions, power data (from ANT+™-enabled third-party power metres) — the works. Even share your data with other Edge 705 friends after your ride. All wireless with a colour display, this is no ordinary cycle computer.

Navigate Your Ride
Lose yourself in the ride without losing your way. Edge 705 comes with a built-in basemap, plus it has a microSD™ card slot for adding map detail and storing workouts, courses and saved rides. Just plug in detailed MapSource® City Navigator® street maps on a preloaded data card and get turn-by-turn directions on a sunlight-readable, colour display as you pedal. Add optional topo mapping for your off-road adventures. Edge snaps easily into the included bike mount to guide you to your destination.

Get the Data You Need
Available in 3 versions, Edge 705 comes bundled with different accessories to keep you on top of your ride. Edge 705 automatically measures your speed, distance, time, calories burned, altitude, climb and descent, and records this data for your review¹. For extra-precise climb and descent data, Edge also incorporates a barometric altimeter to pinpoint changes in elevation. It features a high-sensitivity receiver that holds a signal under trees and near tall buildings, and comes with a click stick for easy screen navigation.

See Your Power
Edge 705 works with third-party ANT+Sport-enabled power metres (check back soon to view list of compatible devices) to display your power output in watts as you ride. This valuable data shows you how hard you're working, regardless of conditions affecting your ride, so you can train smarter. Get a competitive advantage by viewing power output along with Edge data all on the same display and storing this information to analyse your workout.

Measure Heart Rate and Cadence
Garmin’s innovative ANT+Sport wireless technology means you get heart rate and speed data with no strings attached. All versions of Edge 705 include a wireless heart rate monitor to measure your heart rate and track your heart rate zone. Some packages also include a speed/cadence sensor to monitor your pedaling cadence and wheel speed as you ride. You can even use it to train indoors because the sensor attaches to your rear wheel, not the front like most other computer systems.

Swap Rides Wirelessly
With Edge 705 you can share your courses, workouts and saved rides wirelessly with other Edge 705 users. Now you can prove that 20-mile uphill climb with a 2000-foot elevation gain. Better yet, send it to your friend to ride. Sharing data is easy. Just select "Transfer Data" to send your information to other Edge 705 units within a 3-meter range.

Share, Store and Analyze
You rode hard and now you want to store and analyse your workout. With a simple connection to your computer, you can join a worldwide network of cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts through Garmin Connect™ — our new, one-stop site for data analysis and sharing. Also upload to optional Garmin Training Center® software for further analysis.

About GPS - Cycle

GPS receivers are now made waterproof, lightweight and small enough to fit on a bike easily. There are 2 basic choices to take on your bike: a GPS unit designed primarily for navigation with a dedicated bike mount, particularly suitable for cycle touring and finding your way in unfamiliar territory, like the Garmin eTrex Vista Cx; or a dedicated bike computer that uses GPS to track your training routes and provide detailed analysis of your workout like the Edge 305, with more limited navigation capabilities. Most units come with only very basic maps installed and you may need to purchase more detailed maps for your area to be loaded onto the unit for navigation.

All electrical goods sold on wiggle that come with a mains power supply are supplied with a UK plug. Please check the product description to see if any other plugs are known to be included in the box, otherwise you may need an adapter for use in your country. Most power adapters will accept 110-240 Volts.

Review from Road Cycling UK

Garmin's latest bike-specific GPS unit - the Edge 605/705 - combines all the training facilities from its previous 205/305 devices and adds all the navigational and mapping features from the more outdoor-oriented GPS receivers.

The Edge 705, tested here, is the top-of-the-line unit. It is marginally bigger than the Edge 305 in order to accommodate the new 1.4" x 1.7" colour screen, which is needed for a decent view of the map, the one feature that was firmly lacking from the 305. The maps are stored on a MicroSD card that slots into the base of the unit - cards pre-loaded with various maps covering most of the world available.

On the outside, the unit is still small enough to sit unobtrusively on your handlebar or stem, mounted via a simple bracket and two zip ties. New too is the small joystick at the bottom of the screen, which makes moving through the option menus and around the map a doddle, even when on the move and with gloves on. The on/off button is located on the top left side, with a menu and pair of zoom buttons on the opposite side, and a new lap and start/stop buttons either side the joystick. Construction and build quality is second to none with knocks shrugged off admirably, and it's even water resistant - a good job too with the summer we've had.

The 705 comes with an HRM, and you can add a wireless wheel speed/cadence sensor. It'll communicate with third-party ANT+Sport-enabled power meters, to you can track your power output in watts, good for those who take their training very seriously. Battery life is improved on the 305, with Garmin claiming 15 hours on a full charge, and in use that's a fairly realistic figure.

You get two bike mounts in the box, which allow attachment to the handlebars or stem via zip ties, the latter has seemed preferable in our testing as its size is well supported on the stem. Optional speed and cadence sensors also zip tie to the frame, and it's an easy step to get the Edge communicating with them.

The actual GPS functioning is superb, quickly locking onto the satellites the moment it powers up and never losing connection during a ride. The routing capability is quite impressive: simply tell it where you want to go and turn-by-turn instructions will pop up along the route. While this method works well, using the Courses facility seems preferable and more flexible, with a route pre-planned and the file downloaded to the Edge you can race against a Virtual Rider. You can even transfer data between two 705 units wirelessly, opening up the opportunity to share routes with friends.

Once your ride is over, all the data, including the route in all its detail, with speed, distance, average speed, cadence, heart rate and more can be downloaded the supplied Training Centre software, which acts as a useful training log. Notes can be added to each ride. The Training Centre software doesn't show you your rides on a worthwhile map, but Garmin's Motion Based website uses Google Maps which is infinitely more useful.

There's a dizzying amount of potential with the Edge 705 and unlocking some of it can take some time when starting out, but there's a wealth of opportunities for both the casual/touring cyclist hoping to explore new areas and the serious athlete interested in tracking and monitoring every aspect of a workout. Add in support for power metering, and you've got a very serious bit of kit.

In conclusion...

If you want one device that will take care of your navigation, performance and training needs, the Garmin Edge 705 is it.

Review from MBR

Garmin Edge 705

At just shy of £360, you're probably thinking, "I could get a laptop for that!"
And you'd be right. The edge 705 is expensive, but it's the only bike computer on the market to include all these functions.
Features include heart rate, candence and all the usual speed and distance functions, but added to this is
a full GPS device for mapping, routing and, interestingly, training. If you're meauring your improvement
on a particular route , you can have a virtual training partner - yourself on a previous ride - riding on the screen.

The 705 is surprisingly easy to set up given the number of functions, and we were up and running in around 15 minutes. The ability to
set the screen up to show exactly what you want, is particulary usefull-the split screen, with mapping down below and fitness functions at
the top,is perfect. You can cram as many as eight seperate performence variables on the screen at one time - just remember to keep an eye on the trail!

Usable off-road mapping is installed using a micro-SD card. you can pick up a 2GB version for under £10 and this will hold
the whole of the UK.

Included with the 705 is Garmins own Training Centre software, which allows you to see how your training is going.

In conclusion...

Easy to set up and useable off-road mapping on Garmin's unique split screen display.

Review from Bikeradar

It's a long way from cheap, but the Garmin Edge 705 is the most useful bit of cycling-orientated electronics we've ever used. Combining a bike computer on steroids, a mapping GPS receiver, a heart rate monitor and a power meter head unit in one easy-to-use device makes for an unrivalled cycling dashboard. Garmin's Edge 705 ticks just about all the boxes for a GPS-capable bike computer. It makes it easy to plan and record rides, and guides you on your way. It provides a vast amount of data, but it's well organised and once you get used to the menu-driven format, it's easy to use.Read the full review here

In conclusion...

A staggeringly complete information source - the ultimate bike computer, with GPS navigation too

Review from Dan at Wiggle

Buy it with a map to unlock the full potential. If you just want the routing capabilities and do not need heart rate or advanced training features then consider the cheaper Edge 605. To read the full Wiggle review click here

In conclusion...

A seriously good bit of kit for serious riders.

Review from Matt Page at Wiggle

The Edge 705 and Garmin’s Training Centre provide a brilliant tool for training, allowing athletes to plan, execute and analyse their training all in one, neat and easy to use package.

You can read Matt's full review on our bloggle where he goes into great detail about its benefits as a training tool. It's a must-read!

In conclusion...

I’ve certainly enjoyed using the Edge and I feel it would be a great benefit to me, so much so that I wonder why I never thought of getting one before.
