A simple yet functional waterproof made from highly breathable eVent material which means you don't get wet from rain or sweat. A high collar and adjustable cuffs seal out the cold and wet while a drop tail keeps you covered.
Add the subtle reflective stripes, that help to keep you seen and this offers great value.
DHB leaves the cheaper end of the market behind with its new Wickham, a simple, no-nonsense jacket that's perfect for shorter rides. It's made from the super-breathing and waterproof eVent material with taped seams, which you'd only expect to see on higher end jackets. The cut is fitted but the look will work whatever you ride. It's a bulk-free jacket which does away with all un-necessaries such as pockets, storm flaps and extra vents so you'll need a pack on longer rides. Luckily the quality material does a good job of keeping you dry and breathing superbly, although insulation could be better. There's no draw cord on the fleece lined collar but it's elongated to compensate for this.
Simple, breathable and lightweight but you'll need to layer up.
Sometimes the simplest designs are the best. Eliminating excess features from a jacket maximises its breathability while keeping pack size and cost to a minimum, and that's exactly what Wiggle have done with the waterproof dhb Wickham jacket. The highly breathable unlined eVent fabric, taped seams, water resistant zip, volume adjusters and a just-roomy-enough cut cover all bases, while 360 degree reflective details complement its Black Magic black and vibrant red colourways. We did manage to snap the toggle from one of the waist cord pulls through and while the high neck is lined with fluffy microfleece, there's nothing behind the zip to save your chin from chafing.
Simple and resilient bike specific jacket that does just what it should without fuss.
The Wickham is a minimalist jacket free from pockets, venting panels and storm flaps. This makes it great value, low on bulk and built to last as there are fewer places for the fabric to fail in future and let in moisture. It breathes well too and the fit is great. One gripe though – there's no fleece covering for the top of the neck zip, and constant neck tickling can become a pain over longer rides.
Great value, high performance jacket
Available in a choice of red or black, dhb's Wickham eVent jacket is likely to prove a hit whatever your style of riding. Made from eVent, a three-layer breathable nylon waterproof fabric, it is designed to keep the rider completely dry and it delivers excelent performance in all weathers.Compared with more traditional jackets the Wickham's unlined shell feels relatively spartan and isn't as effective as some at combating wind-chill. The complete absence of pockets will deter some commuters and tourists. However, performance riders will find that Velcro cuffs and single-handed drawstring waist give a nigh on perfect fit and they're easily adjusted on the fly. The Wickham is broad across the shoulders, I found the large comparatively generous around the chest and so although it is close fitting i could get an extra layer under it without feeling restrictive - useful for combatting wind chill. The red is classy and highly visible in low light. Cut is ideal for performance cycling, long at the back to prevent chill when hunched low on the drops while the pronounced, lined collar guards against rain cascading down the neck. Unusually, it doesn't brush annoyingly with modern helmets when looking over your shoulder. The most notable difference between this and less sophisticated, PU based garments is the continual climate-control; moisture is transported immediately from the skin, I stayed completely dry-even after sustained effort. There's no clamminess and no sweat patches. The tapered seams and waterproof YKK zip don't leak even in the foulest of downpours while the tasteful reflective piping and logo add welcome night time security.Care is surprisingly simple and reminiscent of Gore-Tex. Regularly machine wash at 40 degrees using liquid detergent, rinse twice, allow to drip dry and (steam) iron on a warm setting to rejuvenate the finish. Simple. Whilst by no means cheap, the Wickham continues dhb's reputation for performance and value and paired with the over-trousers, offers the last word in four season's riding pleasure.
A superb garment at a reasonable price given the level of performance. Unparalleled weather protection and rider comfort.
