Great attention has been given to sealing- the main feature of which is the external dynamic seal with an outer lip which engages into cups' seal groove and orientated so it expands to prevent ingress of dirt and water if hosed onto BB. Twin lips seal against crank shaft. Also a common issue is created when dirt and water enter the BB from the inside (often happens when water enters BB shell from inside frame tubes) so the RC80 has double large section inner O-Rings on sleeve to give maximum protection internally from dirt and water which may rest in BB shell.

The precision Enduro bearings are also fitted with a dual lip labyrinth seal for added protection. Cups are cnc machined from tough high grade aluminium and have greater thread penetration than standard to provide additional support and engagement (particularly useful in BB shells with worn or damaged threads)- deeper on drive side.

About Bottom Brackets

Bicycle bottom brackets connect the cranks to the bike and allow the crank arms to rotate. There are various sizes of bottom bracket shell on the market, so compatibility needs to be checked. The three most common frame bottom bracket shell widths are 68mm (English threaded road and mtb), 70mm (Italian threaded road) and 73mm (British threaded mtb). There are also many axle shapes and styles, from JIS or ISO square tapers through to the round splined axles such as ISIS or Octalink and then there is the new external cup systems which have the axle built into the crank arms. Some frames are now using the new BB30 system which uses bearings pushed directly into the frame and removes the needs for cups to be threaded into the frame.
