This tyre uses three of Panaracer's top tyre technologies and these include:
ASB Chafer which provides pinch resistance. When you see the ASB logo, it means that the tyre has a proprietary anti-rebound rubber strip that reduces the chance of pinch flats by an average of 40%!
Panaracer's exclusive Multi-Step knobs have various heights designed into each knob These stepped knobs help tyres to perform in all conditions from hard to soft. Short big knobs are specially designed to provide an excellent ride that also delivers the lightest weight full knobby MTB tyres.
BAX technology uses extremely narrow 0.14 diameter cord which is weaved at a super high density into the casing for lightness and flexibility. This increased density improves resistance to cuts and abrasions. Adding silica compounds to tyre treads vastly improves tyre life, increased durability and grip.
About MTB Off-Road Tyres
These tyres are for mountain bikes and intended primarily for off road use, the knobbly patterns provide grip when steering and traction when applying power to the pedals. There is usually a tyre to suit the conditions in which you are riding in so the right choice is important. On dry days a narrow tyre with a smoother central tread can be used, but on a wet day a wider tyre with a deeper knobbly tread pattern is essential or you could be the one in contact with the mud.

Magazine reviews for Panaracer Fire XC Pro Folding Mountain Bike Tyre
Review from What MTB
The skinniest version of Panaracer's well-loved all rounder is a great example of how good a sludge-cutter can be for racing. Small, sharp edged, square centre blocks bite impressively well once the skinny carcass has sunk into soft ground. They clear super-quick too, so you'll be one of the last to clog, however bad the course gets. You could say that about most skinny tyres though, so the Fire XC has a few more tricks up its sleeve which make it worth special mention. Firstly full size 'ZSG' softer compound side wings give the Fire much more leaning/off-camber clamber grip than most miniature rubber too. The ASB reinforced sidewall really does shrug off pinch flats better than normal tyres too so you'll enjoy clattering through sharp stuff better. in other words, while skinnies always take some time to get used to, you can ride this a lot less nervously than most. They do an even more toothier 'Fire Mud' 1.8in tyre, which is even better in runny mess but for mixed speed we would still stick with this one.
Speedy and surprisingly tough deep-cutting skinny grip
Review from What MTB
Lightweight yet tough all-season tyre
Rating: 8/10 Performance 8/10 Value
Review from MBR
The tread pattern on the Fire XC Pro is symmetrically shaped, with high and low knobs, creating good grip in most conditions
Excellent quality and one of the best do it all tyres

so it rotates one direction for the front and the opposite direction for the rear.
Worth to try.
I am using both f/r1.8, and feel same performance as 2.1 nobby nic
2.1 or 2.0 front an d rear should do you just fine. depending upon your riding you could try a narrower front, but i woudl keep them the same. 2.2 front and back is mud and mountains not xc summer use.
Using Stan's Tyre sealant works fine
Before I changed I could feel the rear tyre almost being sucked into the mud throughout the winter but since changing the rear I feel like it just glides through mud. Not sure if the front tyre is creating the path and the thinner tyre is following through or it is because it has less contact with the ground. Either way it is giving me a much better ride and no lose of traction.
One reason for putting a smaller tyre on the rear is that they are usually lighter and any reduction in rotating mass is important for cyclists. The rear tyre is responsible for acceleration, so mass is important. The front tyre does most of the braking and steering, so should have more grip.
I would recommned always putting a lighter tyre on the rear - it doesn't have to be smaller.
In Panaracer tyres a 1.8" rear and 2.1" front would probably be a good combination.
