Panaracer's fat but reasonably light Rampage is a great all-round tyre, and this new version gives even more short-term bite.
With a relatively low weight of 720g and slope-fronted Nevegal-style knobs, it's easily fast and responsive enough for trail use. Chunky shoulder knobs give a good working edge to bite into cornering and off-camber situations.
While it doesn't look much, the little 'Elastoplast' ASB chafer strip above the bead has proven itself genuinely useful for stopping pinch flats compared to conventional tyres over the years we've used it.
What the new SC version adds is a new ZSG Active soft (50 duro) compound rubber mix. This adds extra, immediately obvious adhesion to the already good all-conditions mechanical grip. The result is a tyre you can really push hard, braking later, leaning harder and generally getting away with murder and the two samples we've got have been in constant use in the last few months.
The downsides are noticeably faster wear rates and slightly slower rolling, but run it on the front where these issues matter less and grip matters more and you'll love 'em. If you manage to get one of the initial limited edition batch you can score a £27.99 intro price too.
In conclusion...
Slightly short-lived but impressively responsive, control boosting tyre that you can really push hard
