About MTB Slick Tyres

These road tyres will fit Mountain Bike wheels and are primarily for road and light trail use. They will be faster and grip better than a standard ‘knobbly’ styled cross country tyre on road. These tyres work by putting a large area of grippy rubber in contact with the road so they only need a minimal tread pattern. This semi-slick design reduces rolling resistance and improves both speed and safety. Sharp objects like thorns and glass are likely to work their way through your tyres and cause punctures so choose a model with built-in puncture protection. Panaracer RibMo Folding MTB Tyre 4.2 5 13 13

RibMo Lives Up to Its Name! RibMo or Ri(de) B(ike) M(ore) O(ften) has definately lived up to its name. I do off-road triathlons in the Summer, but during the colder months no such events exist. Although there are clubs etc. that go off bashing the trails, my closest one is 20mins drive away. By slapping on the Skinnies I can jump on my MTB and keep up with the roadies as I peddle around the streets closer to home. It really has made riding my bike on the road more pleasurable and got me out enjoying the very different world of road cycling, without the expense of a seperate bike. My Bike: Specialised Hard Rock Pro Disc, Alex Rims, Tyres went on without a fuss (with schwalbe tubes, 1" to 1.5" X 26") These tyres have been criticised for being a little expensive, this may be true, however where they fall down on price they more than make up for in reliability and strength. The roadies I ride with were dropping like flies with punctures last weekend in the wet, where I wasnt. To be honest the break-downs gave me the chance to catch my breath! :) If you are looking for a tyre for your MTB to turn your off-road machine into a roadworthy racer, the Panaracers are most definately the tyre for you. 26 April 2011

Does what it says on the tin I bought these tyres in preparation for a 120 mile road ride on my orange p7. They're good. Rolling resistance right down, speed right up! The profile is egg shaped, so that they're thinner along the middle in terms of width, but thicker in terms of depth: in effect it's like a full road tyre with max puncture protection. I was surprised how much better grip and braking became. The 1.5 inch width seems just right for my mavic speed discs too! 18 September 2012

Great tyre but quite expensive feel good and solid with good balance of size allowing quick rolling with a bit of protection when needing to jump onto kirbs to avoid being squashed...! pointy end of egg egg profile also seems to help rolling without hurting grip in corners, also lifts a lot of the tyre away from the road surface which really can make the difference against punctures where millimeters matter (though did feel a bit weird to get used to relative to normal profiles - kind of felt like hub bearings were loose when making small steering adjustments as you 'drop off' the centre contact point. dull finish to tread gives a bit of confidence against slides #relative to others ive had with a kind of shiny finish#. Would get a five once i get some miles under my belt if it lasts longer and proves more puncture resistant than my previous maxxix detonators. expensive but that doesnt meen poor value...we shall see... 08 August 2012

Best Commuting Tyre I am onto my second set of RiBMo tyres on my recumbent and have yet to have a puncture, although my commuting route is littered with broken glass and puncture-causing debris, as witnessed by many other bikes having flats along the way. I also had occasional punctures when using some of the puncture resistant varieties of more common brands. The tyres are long-wearing, and when new, the V-shaped profile aids stability when riding over patches of loose sand on the riding paths. The RiBMo tyres are relatively pliable and ride well, unlike another brand of highly puncture resistant tyre that also did not suffer any punctures, but was very stiff. 16 April 2012

I think all the different models are different, my folding 26" x 1.25" Panaracers say 60 to 80 psi on the tyre. I managed to get mine up to 70 with a little hand pump and they are hard as rocks. Some websites say you can run them at 100 psi, but I would not advise that.

Its just the one per box, no bells and whistles either no tubes or anything like that just a really good tyre. They are expensive but worth it in my opinion.

Are these easier to fit than schwalbe wire beaded tyres?

With the schwalbe marathon supremes you got to use straps and have arms of steel to change the tyre - looking for an alternative and wondering if these fit the bill

Although I have not used Schwalbe tyres, I have experienced other tyres that are very difficult to get on and off. The RiBMo tyres are relatively easy to get on and off. They can be eased on by hand without tyre levers, nor thumbs of steel.

It is difficult to give a definitive answer as some tyre rim combinations can be very easy or very hard to fit. Unfortunately until a certain tyre and rim combination is tried then it's difficlut to say if fitting will transpire to be easy or hard.
