Everyone should have this This book is worth it's weight in gold or should that be printer ink :) Everyone should have this book as it's easy to follow with fantastic pictures and instructions although some of the pictures appear a bit dated and it would be better in colour, I couldn't recommend this book enough. If you need to see what you may expect go to the park tools site and have a look at some of the help areas which give colour pictures and advice on tools, the site is great but the book is ideal for a reference tool . 10 July 2010

The Bible Easy to follow step-by-step guides. Pictures are great quality and a brilliant aid for new riders who aren't sure what the difference between a sprocket and a chainring is. Have used this for all the little jobs I'm too embarressed to return to the shop and ask about!! This is now my Bible for my new religion. 30 June 2010

Even beginners can use this. I bought this book so I can actually do some maintance on my bike, it was through the recommendation of a good friend, he was right. All the info. loads of pictures and I no longer feel I know nothing. Would recommend if you plan on doing your own repairs or giving the maintance ago 12 March 2010

Bike maintenance made easy When I got my bike it was like a black box. I was terrified to tweak or rotate anything - afterall it was set up by the bike shop perfectly! Surely I could only make matters worse by meddling! This book changes all of that. C Calvin Jones writes with a fantastically simple and fluid style that makes it all really straightforward (e.g. 1 - do this. 2 - turn this until this happens. 3 - turn it back a bit). The book is crammed full of pictures which means you're never left wondering if the screw you plan to turn is the same one you're supposed to turn. My rear derailleur was causing me jip - missing cogs and refusing to drop to lower cogs etc. With this book, a few tools and spares and about an hour, I had replaced the rear gear cable and re-adjusted everything. So much easier than I thought it would be and left me with a tremendous sense of self-satisfaction and a bike good-as-new! Don't be scared of your bike. This book makes it easy. A great purchase for anyone interested in learning how bikes work and saving a few £s in the process. 17 February 2010

USA version different to UK

I've just had this book delivered, and it's the US version. Not the book advertised. Are there any differences?

Not sure if there's any such thing as a UK version. Aside from the dubious US spelling (one day they'll find that missing 'i' in Aluminium) it works fine, since Mr Shimano and Mr SRAM don't vary their products for the different markets. You might need to do some simple maths for torque settings if you want Nm instead of in-lbs or ft-lbs. But otherwise it's a pretty universal book (and a good companion to the Haynes manual)

it covers a wide variety of components from modern bits to older items showing pictures of differences for the rest of use, who may get confused with the various bottom bracket styles available for instance. or types of hubs it is really a completely comprehensive book covering components so it should relate to everything on a bike old and new.

Confused about editions and volumes

The description says volume two second edition, so does this mean that there's a volume one second edition? Or is there just the one Blue Book, and they've muddled up the terms "edition" and "volume". I don't want to end up with the second volume of a two volume set.
