While this type of masterlink doesn't require a traditional chain tool, over time, dirt and corrosion can make it difficult to separate by hand. kmc/sram links are available for shimano and other chains
so if you've got one of these, or equivalent, on your chain, it'll remove it
park tool master link pliers - will they work on an 11 speed chain, that is does the nose fit between the links.
