Park Tools Master Link Pliers
Park Tools Master Link Pliers are designed to help remove and replace master links in modern chain systems, although not needed when new they are invaluable on a used chain which can become 'stubborn' when attempting to separate the joining link
Top Features of the Park Tools Master Link Pliers
- Handy tool to help separate tight
- 'Masterlinks' in non-Shimano chains
- For quick and effortless removal and replacement
- Time, dirt and corrosion can make it very difficult to separate by hand
- Simply insert the specially sized jaws into the Masterlink and squeeze the handles
Many derailleur chains use a "master link" that allows the chain to be installed and removed by hand. While this type of masterlink doesn't require a traditional chain tool, over time, dirt and corrosion can make it difficult to separate by hand. MLP-1 Master Link Pliers make removal and replacement of these masterlinks quick and effortless. Simply insert the specially sized jaws into the masterlink and squeeze the handles.

Product Q & A

kmc/sram links are available for shimano and other chains
so if you've got one of these, or equivalent, on your chain, it'll remove it
Just sharing - I've found it easy to 'hand fit' master links for 8 and 9 speed chains.
I've used Decathlon (KMC) 10 speed links on Shimano chains (not recommended by S, but they work). On these its hard to get the rivet to fully get to the end of the slot (the narrow section). An aid is to get the master link 'topside' (so when one pedals there is forward force on the chain). Just braking and gently standing on the pedals helps the flared rivet engage properly/ all the way. If re-using a master link, cleaning it (crud in the slots/ on the rivet) helps.
And I've read that SRAM does not recommend reusing its Powerlink for 10 and 11 speed chains.
