About Head Torches

My new favourite!
I purchased this as an 'extra' cycling light for night cycling and for winter running. I would highly recommend this product. It gives me much more confidence in the dark conditions and I am sure it has added significantly to my visibility - no more cars threatening to sneak out in front of me! I already have a great headlight, so I use this on flash mode (it has bright, dim and flash, in both white light and red light). I can actually wear it on my head, but I would suggest considering the helmet mounting adaptor kit (which was out of stock when I made my purchase) if you are thinking of wearing it riding. It also was awesome when I found myself with a flat in the dark ... I could actually see what I was doing to fix it!

Simply the best head torches
I first used a Petzl headtorch when i first went camping as a child, they were the best then and are even better now due to the improvements in LED technology.
For those worried that the lack of an over-the-head strap makes it less secure in running and mountain biking - I would not consider it a problem at all - the weight means the single strap is perfectly suited.
The LED itself is extremely bright, with the low power setting ideal for in a tent/reading. The red lens is also very useful actually, i use that for reading more than the low power settings as its better to maintain your night sight.
I cant comment on battery life yet as I use lithium AAA batteries and obviously they are still going strong! (they come with very good Duracell rather than no-name batteries - very impressive!). The bundled documentation with this head torch graphs how the LED brightness will slightly decrease as the batteries deteriorates - From my experience Petzl dont try and make false claims unlike their compettitors.
Finally, the buckle on the very comfortable strap is also a whistle which i think is a great piece of design!!
Overall I am extremely happy with this, and i cant find any faults at this stage.
Used for 6 weeks, walking, cycling and a little running.

oh yeah, the good stuff!
had the old petzl MYO for 10 years and it was finally time for an upgrade so i got the better model, TIKKA XP 2.
its light weight, super small but yet very very powerful and versatile.
love the different modes and the button at the top is big enough to use with winter gloves on.
if you want a great headlamp without a huge battery pack, this is it!

Love this product
I bought this so I could do my run interval session at night an it provides ample light even in pitch dark patches of road - have been really happy with it.

I have had my unit now for 3 weeks, I have completed 9 runs in the dark 3 of which were in the rain. The torch shows absolutely no signs of water ingress. There is no misting in the lens. I would declare it waterproof.Answer:

No, this is NOT water proof. There is no seal around the casing at all, the joint between the case when opening to access batteries is plastic to plastic. I would expect heavy rain/cycling in rain would cause problems.However, I would expect it to be drizzle/damp proof as the join is a very snug fit with a small amount of overlap:

From the Petzl website, http://www.petzl.com/us/node/9705this head torch has an IP x4 rating which carries this definition:
Water resistant = IPX4 or IPX6
These Petzl headlamps withstand the worst weather conditions: high humidity, snow, torrential rain, sudden immersion, etc.
They work even when water enters the lamp body. Thanks to stainless steel contacts and waterproof parts that protect sensitive parts.
If water enters the headlamp, it should be dried and the batteries changed. The contacts should be inspected.

Naturally, the distance penetration during that time period will decrease from 60m down to 6m.
According to the performance table at 10 hours, the beam penetration will be 18m.

I've worn this with a cycle helmet - fits best if worn under the helmet and sitting low on forehead.Wouldn't chose it as my main light, but works fine as an emergency headlight.
We use ours when touring as our only light.

If you buy the accessories pack that goes with this, then yes. That's what I did and so far it has stuck well. The pack pretty much allows you to attach it to anything.Only down side is, you only get one "sticky" pad to put on one helmet. Works for me though.

It will fit underneath your bike helmet. I have a Giro helment and I position the XP2 before fitting my helmet. Once on the only time you need to touch it is if you are changing the light function (i.e. from beam to strobe to increase visibility). Once it is on you don't even notice it.Country : United Kingdom

I don't think you could get it to fit on a bike helmet with the standard strap but Petzl do offer some different attachments for it which may well let you fit it to a cycle helmet. Probably worth asking your local stockist about this. The info about the extra attachments comes inside the box which means you can't see it without breaking open the packet.Country : United Kingdom
