About MTB Handlebars
Mountain bike or flat handlebars can be made from carbon or alloy and feature various clamp sizes and bends. Oversized mtb bars have a 31.8mm clamp area, while standard bars have 25.4mm. Cross country bars are usually relatively straight, but can feature different rises which bring the grips and levers higher up, these are known as riser bars and come in low, medium and high riser bar formats. Downhill bars tend to be made of a stiffer more durable material, so are stronger and slightly heavier than a XC bar.

Magazine reviews for Race Face Atlas AM Riser Mountain Bike Handlebar 2009
Review from What MTB
wide and strong enough for full ragged-edge leverage, low and light enough to keep your agression nailed onto the ground, we love Race Face's new Am bars.
In conclusion...
If you can't quite afford the Atlas, then the Evolve uses the same sweet shape too.

Review from Bikeradar
If, like us, you prefer your cross-country or trail bars to be on the wider side, then the new Atlas AM bars from RaceFace are bang up your alley.
With a nine-degree rearward sweep, six-degree upward sweep and a super low rise, all the angles match up perfectly for sinewy singletrack slaying, but with a manly 685mm (27in) width you can attack downhills. A weight of 270g keeps the scales happy too.
They feel pretty stiff and the cold drawn alloy construction ensures they'll take a pummelling. They're perfect for the new generation of 5in-plus travel trail or all-mountain rigs.
In conclusion...
Wide, strong bars for those who are willing to unleash their inner mentalist
Rating: 9/10
Review from MBR
like most Race Face bars it's made of cold-drawn, seamless air alloy and has a ahot-peened surface for increase fatigue life. It's only available in a 31.8mm diameter but starts out at a whopping 680mm wide, so can be trimmed to fit. Upsweep and backsweep is down to personal preference but we liked the overall shape of the Atlas. Cut lines are marked on the end of the bars and, for weight weenies, Race Face has printed on how much each inch weighs.
In conclusion...
The Atlas is similar in price to an Easton EA70 and an Answer ProTaper, and a similar weight to other 680mm bars. It also gets a similar score.
Rating: 9/10
Review from What MTB
We've been using the matching Atlas bar and its cheaper Evolve brother for a while and it's the nicest pipe we've had our hands on in ages. Wide, with barely any rise at all (19mm to be exact) but a very long taper and plenty of backsweep it's fantastic for lowering the front end of a long travel bike without losing any control. It's just flexy enough to hammer all day without losing accurate feedback or leverage in live or die situations. There are handy cut marks in the shot-peened surface if you need to chop it down a bit too.
In conclusion...
Super low,wide and a great stifness/comfort blend.
