Featuring the signature I-Beam arm profiling & the NEW made in Canada 'Turbine' rings with patented Shift Technology. The Deus crank is an incredibly light & stiff performance crank-set. Designed specifically for cross country racing & riding, Deus continues to set the benchmark for performance cross country cranks.
The chainrings - After 2 years of engineering work and rigorous testing, the all new Turbine rings are ready to ride. Completely redesigned from the ground up, these rings shift like nothing else. As with our previous Team and Race rings, the Turbine rings are made in Canada from 7075 aluminum, so they are built to last. Aside from their stunning good looks, these are the highlights:
Offering unparalleled form and function, the new Turbine rings are second to none, and come standard on our Deus and Next cranks.
1 - New asymmetrical tooth profiling and more upshift and downshift zones yield instantaneous smooth and quiet shifting, even under load.
2 - 3 times stiffer than our previous Team chainrings without any weight gain. Net result is much sharper, quicker and more responsive shifts as well as increased resistance to impacts.
3 - Machined in Canada with US made aluminum.
The bottom bracket - Our high end X-Type external bottom bracket has been totally redesigned and upgraded for 2010! Bearings, sealing and machining precision are all improved to create a smoother running, longer lasting BB set which is now fully serviceable!
The heart of the upgrade is our new high precision "CRY/OX" bearings. The magic of these bearings is in the races which undergo "deep cryogenic treatment". This is essentially "cold-treating" the races at temperatures below -300°F to refine the micro-structure of the steel. This process, also used on automotive transmission gears, brake rotors and cutting tools, improves wear resistance, lowers friction and extends bearing life.
Next we add a corrosion resistant Black Oxide coating to the races to resist the onset of corrosion should water enter the system (*usually caused by use of high-pressure water hose / pressure washer cleaning).
The bearings are then assembled with ultra precise, grade 5 ball bearings, filled to the gills with Phil Wood grease and sealed up with a new low friction, snap ring retainer wiper seal that runs smoother than our heavy duty triple lip wiper seals used in our "RACE" series external BB's
Our Forged TEAM XC BB cups are precision CNC turned to a tolerance level 3 times tighter than our RACE series bottom brackets for the press-fit surfaces. This ensures ideal mating conditions between bearings and cups, contributing to the extended life of these BB's
For 2010 we have introduced a full set of dealer tools making all Race Face X-Type bottom brackets fully serviceable. Whether replacing a plastic outer race, re-greasing a bearing or pulling and replacing a bearing from the cup, it can now all be done quickly and easily by the dealer.
Still interchangeable with all current and past Race Face external BB cranksets, as well as select Shimano and FSA external mountain BB systems.
About
Chainsets
Your chainset must fit onto your bottom bracket! There are currently four chainset/bottom bracket interfaces that you're likely to come across. If your bottom bracket is made by Shimano and it has splines, then you need an Octalink chainset. If your b/b is NOT made by Shimano and it has splines, it's almost certainly ISIS. There are a very few non-Shimano chainsets with Shimano Octalink interfaces so, to be sure, count the splines - ISIS has 9, Octalink has (surprise, surprise) 8. No matter which brand of b/b you have, if it has a square interface, it will require a traditional square taper chainset. If you have one of the new Hollowtech II systems, you will need to choose the exact chainset that matches your bottom bracket. Most MTB chainsets are now 9-speed compatible but these will work with an 8-speed system.
