Specification information

Take the legendary and inspiring handling of a hand-built Ritchey bicycle. Add a revolutionary coupling system that allows you to pack it and travel around the world with ease. The result is the ultimate travel bike: The Ritchey Break-Away. When built into a full size bike it fits in a case that measures a scant 9x26x29 (23x66x73.5cm)! The Break-Away frame disassembles and assembles in minutes and comes complete with a travel bag. Ritchey custom steel and Titanium tubesets and the patented compression coupling system are the keys to this design. The frame is securely joined at the seatpost in two places and on the downtube. The coupler clamps unobtrusively around small flanges on the downtube. While this system is as secure as systems much larger it adds less than 100 grams. Break-Away frames are available in custom heat treated Ritchey cromoly tubing, or in custom drawn 3/2.5 aerospace grade Titanium and carbon fibre.

About Track Frames

Track frames are built for single speed use with a fixed gear. They have horizontal rear entry drop outs and a higher bottom bracket for clearance on the banking. Over recent years single speeds have seen a surge in popularity, no doubt due to the large amount of couriers using them, many people are adopting single speeds for commuting and training on through the winter months. The fixed gear nature of a single speed teaches you to spin the pedals smoothly on the flat and power over inclines, as there is no hiding on a single speed. You can even find people Time Trialling on them on some of the flatter courses. With a single speed you get a versatile bike suitable for training on through the winter, commuting all year round and then racing at the velodrome on.
