New from Campagnolo are the Time Trial chainsets. Same design as the Super Record chainsets of 2011, but with higher chainring options (42/55 and 42/54).
Lab research has shown that, although the diameter of the TT chainrings is larger, the crankset is as rigid as the crankset with standard chainrings (53/39). This maintains optimal transfer of power from the pedals to the wheel via the chainring and the chain.
The X.P.S.S. technology (Extreme Performance Shifting System) allows for consistently accurate and fast shifting, even under load. This is enhanced by the 8 upshifting and 2 downshifting zones of the chainring and the special design of the teeth
Shifting to "higher quality"; the new chainrings have 8 pins to lift the chain and 2 to lower it. This whole re-designed system makes shifting from one chainring to the other very fast and efficient.
The result: faster and more precise shifting than ever before, a huge step forward compared to the past.
CULT(TM) bearing technology guarantees a smooth and efficient pedaling action and a long lasting performance. For those who only want the best and look for unique and exclusive components, the central pin crank set and titanium fixing bolts will offer a very unique bike.
Your chainset must fit onto your bottom bracket! There are currently four chainset/bottom bracket interfaces that you're likely to come across. If your bottom bracket is made by Shimano and it has splines, then you need an Octalink chainset. If your b/b is NOT made by Shimano and it has splines, it's almost certainly ISIS. There are a very few non-Shimano chainsets with Shimano Octalink interfaces so, to be sure, count the splines - ISIS has 9, Octalink has (surprise, surprise) 8. No matter which brand of b/b you have, if it has a square interface, it will require a traditional square taper chainset. If you have one of the new Hollowtech II systems, you will need to choose the exact chainset that matches your bottom bracket. Most MTB chainsets are now 9-speed compatible but these will work with an 8-speed system.
