The Type A 5 is Saucony's ultimate racing shoe and it's been a big favourite with both runners and triathletes since day one. This fifth version has been stripped down even further to make it lighter and more responsive than ever. Now weighing in at under 160g for men and 145g for women, the Type A 5 is just about as fast as it gets. The new style is still as low to the ground and possible on built on Saucony 4mm heel-to-toe drop which helps the runner onto their toes more easily. The high specification SSL (Saucony Super-Lite) midsole give greater cushioning and improved responsiveness too.
The outsole provides grip in even wet conditions, yet remains as light as possible. The new upper utilises Saucony’s FlexFilm technology which was first implemented on track spikes, so is a minimal and lightweight as possible, yet still hold the foot securely to ensure no excessive movement and power-loss. This is achieved using a skeletal mesh of minimal overlays which hold the foot in place without causing irritation, so makes the Type A 5an ideal shoe to wear without socks.
About Racing Running Shoes
Racing shoes are ultra-lightweight, built on a curved last and stripped of the majority of cushioning and stability features found on most training shoes. Generally, the lighter the shoe, the more minimalist the design. You should choose these if you’re a fast, elite runner concerned predominantly with weight. Unless you’re very light, these aren’t for you if you run a marathon outside 2:45, or 1:30 for a half.
About the Saucony brand
From the GRID cushioning system through Custom Ride Management to dual density midsoles, all Saucony's technologies are based on concepts which have been tried and tested over many years. Furthermore all are conceived from sound principals, based on extensive biomechanical research and developement. Be it in the search for comfort or injury prevention.
