About Road Race Tyres
These tyres are for racing style bikes that use clincher/hooked rims, these are the most common fitment and hook onto the rim and require an inner tube. There is a wide choice of tyres within this category and the right choice is important. Lighter tyres will accelerate quickly, but will be more prone to punctures so getting a balance is extremely important. If you require a tyre for all round use look for something with puncture protection, an average TPI(Threads Per Inch) and average weight. If you require a fast tyre and speed is the only thing that matters look for a low weight folding tyre with high TPI. If durability is your priority and speed is not so important look towards the puncture resistant tyres and consider going for a wider tyre, these will be less prone to punctures and offer a bit more comfort. For wet road conditions a triple compound or winter tyre is a good choice, these use a softer compound on the cornering surface to maximise grip.
About the Schwalbe brand
For over 70 years Schwalbe have dominated the two wheeled tyre industry in Germany and Europe, being voted best MTB tyre brand in Germany for the past two years. From the very early beginnings where the company founder, Earnest-Wilhelm Bohle capitalised on the developing cycle industry, to the ultra modern distribution facility near Cologne, Schwalbe have continued to design and manufacture some of the finest bicycle tyres available. Schwalbe's success is due in part to the effort it makes in product development from lab tests at the manufacturing facility to the hardest proving grounds of all, professional cycle racing. 'Team Gerolsteiner' achieved a very creditable 7th place overall in the 2004 Tour de France and the unique performance of team captain Davide Rebellin winning three major classic races back to back using Schwalbe tyre. Other notable succeses include Normann Stadler winning the infamous Ironman triathlon in Hawaii, riding Schwalbe Stelvio tyres.

Magazine reviews for Schwalbe Durano S Performance Folding Tyre
Review from road.cc
After 1,000km in wet and dry the Schwalbe Durano S Raceguard tyres have provided lots of confidence and grip.
The testing ground was the mountains and valleys of southern Wales for the first foray. There was plenty of mileage and certainly a variety of terrain for the Schwalbes to contend with.
On the climbs the tyres rolled well coping with the varying surfaces without causing any issues. My bigger concern was not the climbs but how would they cope on the long, swooping descents that lasted for several kilometers or on the more technical sections complete with hairpins? I needn't have worried. On a mixture of road surfaces I felt completely in control on every descent regardless of the difficulty. Leaning the bike over through corners was never a concern, more a case of me not pushing the bike hard enough.
During the brief wet spell during the trip, the sense of control didn't waiver. The grip and feel felt assured. Again the lack of speed was rider restricted, not held back by the lack of grip.
The Schwalbe Duranos have also been put through their paces on the shorter commutes to work. This includes wet and greasy roads, I felt secure in their performance, providing enough grip to negotiate roundabouts and other street obstacles without slippage.
Despite the softer rubber used in the construction of them to provide the extra grip, the dual compound tyres have not suffered in terms of durability. There is the odd nick in them but given the debris be it from rain rinsed fields or re-surfaced roads the Duranos have and continue to roll and wear well. In all of this use, touch wood, there have been no punctures either.
Price wise they aren't the cheapest tyres on the market but what they do offer is performance and reliability.
Without racing on them they have inspired confidence on all surfaces and in all weather. There are few signs of wear and tear but nothing out of the ordinary. Their ability to cope well even on wetter roads has been great.
Grippy without compromising your rolling speed and perform well in the wet
Product Q & A
Ask your questions and share your answers.
Is there much difference between the Schwalbe Durano S and the Durano as far as puncture resistance is concerned?
I have read that the Durano Plus is very puncture resistant but also hard to fit. Would you agree? Is it way better than the standard Durano?
Low rolling resitance & inflate to max 145 psi & you will love them on your triathlons. Very easy to fit & corner like a pro.
As far as fitting them, both are not hard to fit at all. I remember having Conti GP4000 and those were a real pain compared to Duranos.
Hope that help.
