About MTB Off-Road Tyres
These tyres are for mountain bikes and intended primarily for off road use, the knobbly patterns provide grip when steering and traction when applying power to the pedals. There is usually a tyre to suit the conditions in which you are riding in so the right choice is important. On dry days a narrow tyre with a smoother central tread can be used, but on a wet day a wider tyre with a deeper knobbly tread pattern is essential or you could be the one in contact with the mud.
About the Schwalbe brand
For over 70 years Schwalbe have dominated the two wheeled tyre industry in Germany and Europe, being voted best MTB tyre brand in Germany for the past two years. From the very early beginnings where the company founder, Earnest-Wilhelm Bohle capitalised on the developing cycle industry, to the ultra modern distribution facility near Cologne, Schwalbe have continued to design and manufacture some of the finest bicycle tyres available. Schwalbe's success is due in part to the effort it makes in product development from lab tests at the manufacturing facility to the hardest proving grounds of all, professional cycle racing. 'Team Gerolsteiner' achieved a very creditable 7th place overall in the 2004 Tour de France and the unique performance of team captain Davide Rebellin winning three major classic races back to back using Schwalbe tyre. Other notable succeses include Normann Stadler winning the infamous Ironman triathlon in Hawaii, riding Schwalbe Stelvio tyres.

Magazine reviews for Schwalbe Nobby Nic Evolution Performance Folding Bike Tyre
Review from Bikeradar
Schwalbe's Nobby Nic is the most technologically-advanced tyre here and the most expensive. But if you want to win in the wet at any cost it's a superb skinny.
Schwalbe have built themselves a phenomenal performance reputation very quickly since introducing their super supple, super light 'Evolution' carcass. The Nobby Nic adds triple compound rubber for outstanding grip from the split top tread lugs. As a result, it's probably the most common tyre you'll see on racers' front wheels in 2.1in or 2.25in (582g).
The super-narrow 1.8in version thrives in really wet churned-up conditions. Cutting down deep to find grip and cleaning fast before it clogs your frame it's a filthy favourite of top UK riders such as Nick Craig and Oli Beckinsale.
The tubeless design lets you run it at much lower pressures than most skinnies too, but it's still lighter than most reliable tyre and inner tube combinations.
In conclusion...
Super-light, fast and impressively grippy, but fragile and super costly
Rating: 4/5
Review from What MTB
Check out the tyres worn by many top-flight XC racers and marathon riders, and you'll see more than a few Schwalbe Nobby Nics. That's for good reason, because they're one of the fastest-rolling, full-tread mountain bike tyres around. Schwalbe uses a super-thin Evolution casing. On this is placed a triple compound tread construction. It's designed to put hard-wearig rubber on the centre sections where wear is high and you want the low-energy absorption to help you roll fast, with softer stickier rubber in the intermediate and edge sections where you'll require extra grip to stick turns. nobby Nic also has a blocky, open-tread pattern that is faster than it looks. We are happy fitting to the Nobby Nic to almost any XC or trail bike, for any kind of condition and in any weather. Most of the time it will find traction and self-clean - exactly what you want, whether you're out for a weekend ride or keeping your part of a 24 hour fun team on track. They can be a bit prone to thorns and pinching on account of their thin casing, but just use some sealant like Sludge to flat-proof them.
In conclusion...
One of those rare tyres that can do it all, justifying the price
Rating: 8/10
Review from What MTB
Even the Evolution carcass seems to make them faster, although you'll need to be wary of low pressures and sharp rocks as they're a delicate set of boots that you could butcher on the first ride.
In conclusion...
One of the most expensive bits of rubber you can wrap around your rims, Nobby Nic repays investment with outstanding speed, light weight and grip.
