They have strived relentlessly to increase its speed and installed the ZX with HD Speed and RaceStar Triple Compound. Both components are perfectly tuned to the requirements of an outstanding competition tyre.
The result: Significant reduction in rolling resistance. Even though they used additional material to reinforce the tyre shoulders and to ensure a considerable increase in mileage.
Triple Star Compound: Schwalbe have taken the development of Triple Compound a step further. In the course of innumerable series tests, prototypes, laboratory and practical tests they developed a system of highly specialised single compounds. They arranged these into Compound-Teams, each engineered to fulfil a specific job. The job description of the Ultremo ZX is “as fast as possible” so the Compound-Team is RaceStar Triple Compound.
High Density Guard: is a unique puncture protection technology only available from Schwalbe. No other bicycle tyre protection belt is as densely woven and this technology makes it possible to make a tyre that is both light in weight and with an extraordinary high level of puncture resistance. The latest version is HD Speed Guard that is focused on competition tyres. It provides the same level of protection but with significantly reduced rolling resistance.
About Road Race Tyres
These tyres are for racing style bikes that use clincher/hooked rims, these are the most common fitment and hook onto the rim and require an inner tube. There is a wide choice of tyres within this category and the right choice is important. Lighter tyres will accelerate quickly, but will be more prone to punctures so getting a balance is extremely important. If you require a tyre for all round use look for something with puncture protection, an average TPI(Threads Per Inch) and average weight. If you require a fast tyre and speed is the only thing that matters look for a low weight folding tyre with high TPI. If durability is your priority and speed is not so important look towards the puncture resistant tyres and consider going for a wider tyre, these will be less prone to punctures and offer a bit more comfort. For wet road conditions a triple compound or winter tyre is a good choice, these use a softer compound on the cornering surface to maximise grip.
About the Schwalbe brand
For over 70 years Schwalbe have dominated the two wheeled tyre industry in Germany and Europe, being voted best MTB tyre brand in Germany for the past two years. From the very early beginnings where the company founder, Earnest-Wilhelm Bohle capitalised on the developing cycle industry, to the ultra modern distribution facility near Cologne, Schwalbe have continued to design and manufacture some of the finest bicycle tyres available. Schwalbe's success is due in part to the effort it makes in product development from lab tests at the manufacturing facility to the hardest proving grounds of all, professional cycle racing. 'Team Gerolsteiner' achieved a very creditable 7th place overall in the 2004 Tour de France and the unique performance of team captain Davide Rebellin winning three major classic races back to back using Schwalbe tyre. Other notable succeses include Normann Stadler winning the infamous Ironman triathlon in Hawaii, riding Schwalbe Stelvio tyres.

Product Q & A
Ask your questions and share your answers.
I have a set on my BMC TT as well as my Road Bike, smooth ride@ 40+kph
I cant fault them mate! really good tyres!
only if it stipulates a pair would it ionclude front and rear.
I hope this helps.
Can't say that this was purely the tyres as there can be so many variables that can cause a slide.
As far as thickness of tyres, it depends what you mean. If by thickness you mean puncture protection, the tyre isn't especially thick, though I have found the protection to be very reliable.
If by thickness you mean tyre width, there is a lot of debate about what is 'best'. I have always ridden on 23's, though you will find that pro riders are increasingly using 25's and the famous Continental GP4000s 23s are actually 23.8mm. The logic/debate is over the fact that a wider tyre actually has less rolling resistance due to a better contact area, meaning it's actually faster. It also absorbs more road impact, so you're not taking as much abuse for the reward.
Schwalbe have three qualities of rubber, this one is the biz sitting right at the top of their premimum range.
