The arrow head shaped cut-out is designed to be the longest and widest cut-out in the traditional-saddle-biz. In fact, it is so big that it starts just behind the nose and stretches all the way to the back, with the widest point in the middle measuring an astounding 30mm.

The usable area is huge and provides lots of positions where the cut-out is effective which can be an issue with smaller cut-outs. The Mantra has a carbon fibre reinforced shell (C.F.R.P.) wrapped in San Marco's synthetic leather which is both breathable and durable.

The shell is mated to 'Xsilite' rails which were created specifically for professional racers and are much lighter and stronger than titanium due to a high percentage of silicon mixed with particles of titanium and carbon.

with me retuning back into the sport after 20 years being a competitior cyclist and being back on the bike for 18 months, wishing that this seat was around back then. With me suffering from ankylosing spondylitis ( a form of degeneration of the spine), I have found this seat to be excellent, taking the jarring and pressure away from the spine and lower back region. Also with the sport of cycling it is well known for exerting ,anyone suffering from piles or hemorrhoids this seat accomodates for that as well with relieving pressure. 27 October 2012

Saddle perfection This saddle is absolutely perfect in my opinion, the cut-out works exactly as it should and reduces the pressure on your sensitive areas to zero. It is very expensive but I believe great value as it is the best, add to that it looks great on the bike and I would recommend this saddle to anyone. 07 October 2012

Strange looking saddle, but comfy for me This is my second Mantra. I have been using this for about 18months. The padding is minimal under the sit bones, the padding on the nose is noticable when on the rivet in a good way. The giant hole in the saddle is prob on an aesthetic for everyone, but i find it super comfy because I dont like my bit pressured against saddles. The hole provides heaps of cooling, sometimes perhaps too much. You will be the first one to get a wet bum because road spray goes straight through the cutout. I used to swear by my Flite Gel Flow, but find my thighs rub on the noew, not with this though. tried Fizik Arione VS, Selle Italia Flite standard, Flite Gel Flow, SLR Standard, SLR Gel Flow, WTB Rocket Race. Bliss For the last year I have seen the light and clear logic with cut-away saddles. Beginning with a Flite SLR, I eventually found greater relief with a Specialized Romin. For an entire year, the Romin proved that larger opening equated to greater protection from numbness. However, the Romin has a gradual dip midway, that tends to cradle your position on the saddle. Though seeming supportive, the hump toward the front eventually presses against you after inching up, when 'on the rivet' or during long climbs. There are a few reports scattered around that the Selle San Marco Mantra is bliss. The oddly shaped design, almost melting as if taken off Salvador Dali's canvas, stuck in the back of my mind. Eventually with the release of the new colors, I caved for one in white. In hand, the Mantra is truly a prime product. The leather, seams, printed lettering and knurling along the Xsilite rails is flawless. The White/Black color combo looks slick, like alien super technology perched on top of the silver Thomson Elite seat post. At first, the Mantra felt slightly slippery and it's efforless to adjust a mm forward or back. The other substantial effect, is that road expansion joints are less grating, as the saddle doesn't grip and pull on the chamois slightly. I positioned it level across the top and find complete relief from any pressure when pivoting my hips forward, as what tends to happen when settling into the drops. I avoid sliding back too far, what would probably measure two cm over the cut-out, as that seemed to increase pressure. But there is ample length to position a cm without change to the saddle. Along with the free flowing airflow that the enormous cutout provides, I've been mighty impressed and finally fully absorbed in the passing miles. The end of a long day out on the road is truly pain free. 21 January 2012
