The cyclist is at the centre of the project and ergonomic studies have analysed his/her positions during the race and the interaction of the various body parts with the saddle.
The central channel in the saddle is an uncommon characteristic because of its size: almost a whole hand can pass through it. This allows the anus, prostate, pudendal veins, deep dorsal penis artery and vein, scrotum and testicles (for men) and the clitoris (for women), not to be squashed or crushed. Air can circulate also around these areas preventing that unpleasant hot sensation.
All the models in the SMP range have the same patented characteristics in common, such as the original beak of the saddle nose, designed to provide a flat base for the efforts while sitting during long climbs and as a relief during the descents offering better control of the bike. The particular shape of the SMP saddle is not only ergonomic; the original profile and its soft lines make it particularly elegant. A component that improves increasingly more with sophisticated bikes.
The length of the bars makes installation particularly easy on practically any combination of saddle frame to seat post. The saddles are manufactured completely in Italy by Selle SMP.
About Performance Saddles
Performance saddles are narrower than the models designed for shorter ride comfort. They're intended for riders who have a committed riding style with weight on hands and feet so they're narrower and lighter. High tech padding materials and flexible body designs keep your pressure points comfortable and lightweight chassis components keep the weight down. Most have some kind of ergonomic design to reduce pressure on nerves and allow unrestriced blood flow to your sensitive areas. Womens models have a wider design to suit their naturally wider pelvis. Saddle widths vary across the ranges from narrow (upto 130mm), medium (upto 138mm) to wide (upto 146mm). Narrower saddles are the popular choice for longer distance riders as they do not cause the hips to be placed in an unnatural position. Wider saddles will often feel comfortable initially due to their greater surface area but then progressively decrease in comfort as the miles increase, the correct choice of saddle is a case of getting the balance between initial comfort and overall comfort.
