Product Q & A

When installing a 10-speed cassette other than CS-4600, install the included 1.85 mm low spacer and the 1.0 mm spacer
included with the cassette at the positions indicated in the illustration.
For CS-4600, install only the 1.85 mm low spacer. (The 1.0 mm spacer is not necessary.)
Assuming the same holds true for other SRAM 10 speed cassettes then the answer provided by pkar of Melbourne is wrong.
Having read a lot of piffle on this tyre issue, I decided to put the issue to the test myself swapping out continental Grand Prix 4000S II 23mm/25mm tyres running the identical climbs, descents and flats.
I was somewhat surprised with the results which contradicted some professional reports.
The 23s were the fastest and the lightest. As for comfort, I compared running at 110 psi and 100 psi on both tyre sizes.
Consequently, I only run the 23 mm tyres and when I need some comfort or extra grip in wet conditions I run at lower pressures.
NOTE: Having experimented with various tyre makes and types over the years I cannot recommend too highly Continental Grand Prix 4000S tyres. I have known a couple of manufacturing issues with a couple of sets of these tyres [as with other makes] but that apart, I have found the Grand Prix 4000 tyres to be outstanding.
To my Engineering mind: Use a thinner tyre. A lighter tyre, a more aerodynamic tyre. if you want a softer ride then use a slightly lower pressure. Finally puncture protection is more a component of the tyres makeup i.e. construction and not width.
So if you agree with this analysis, then of course go for the thinner tyre.
I have a Look 555 Ultegra with 2009 American Classic 420 34mm wheels. Would the Dura Ace 9000 C24 be significant upgrade? I am looking for good climbing and escending performance
Also a LBS owner advised me "Shimano don't place weight limits on their wheels. Many brands do, but most are less durable and more flimsy than Shimano's. C24's if you are over 115kgs I wouldn't personally use them. If you weight less than that I wouldn't think there would be any concerns".
So, winter on the way and I have just swopped out my ZIPP 202 Firecrest for these wheels (plenty of rain lately and a bit scary as poor stopping power in the wet, despite using the ZIPP carbon-specific pads at £25/pair) So, new wheels, cassette (Ultegra 10sp) & chain. The old set-up shifted flawlessly but after the change all was not good with the chain jumping etc. I thought maybe I had reassembled incorrectly but no - a close look showed the slight misalignment and so I removed the 1mm spacer that came with the cassette and retained the 1.85mm spacer that came with the wheels and hey presto - all okay and perfect shifting again.
Do I need to buy this component separately, or does it come with the wheelset?
