The removal of traditional mechanical cables in favour of electrical wires eliminates poor shifting caused by contaminates, corrosion and stretching, and also provides effortless gear shifts.
Simply pressing tactile buttons allows effortless and comfortable shifting even when your hands are cold
Buttons are located in a near identical place to the positions you'd assume for shifting using a mechanical Shimano STI.
Shifters are lightweight thanks to carbon fibre lever blades, carbon composite bracket body, and a titanium clamp band / fixing bolt.
Brake lever pivot is positioned to increase power providing excellent ergonomics when riding on the hoods.

About Gear Levers & Shifters
Make sure the gear levers you choose are the correct ones for your rear cassette - either 8/9 or 10 speed. Also check that the integrated brake levers (if fitted) are cable or hydraulic to suit your brake calipers. Most SRAM shifters are only compatible with their own derailleurs.

Magazine reviews for Shimano Dura Ace Di2 7970 STI Double 10 Sp Road Lever Set
Review from Bikeradar
"A solution to a problem that doesn't exist." "Unnecessary." "A marketing gimmick." Those are lines offered time and again by armchair critics of Shimano's new Dura-Ace Di2 electronic drivetrain, yet few of those pundits have spent any time on the stuff. After our initial sampling last summer in Japan and now two solid months of near-continuous use on a proper test group, we can confidently say that shifting-by-wire doesn't just work; it's flat-out awesome.
Shifting performance that's second to none.

In conclusion...
Incredibly smooth, precise and reliable shift performance that cable-actuated systems can't match, but hugely expensive and multiple shift performance could be better
