About Rear Derailleurs
Various derailleur systems were designed and built as far back as the late 1800s. A French bicycle tourist, writer and cycling promoter Paul De Vivie (1853-1930), invented a two speed rear derailleur in 1905 which he used on forays into the Alps, and we wonder if 20 gears are enough..... Since then there have been many advancements, in the number of gears, materials and reductions in weight. Wiggle lists a large selection of front and rear derailleurs catering for double and triple systems with 7, 8, 9, 10 and even 11 speed cassettes.

Product Q & A
Ask your questions and share your answers.
I have used quite a variety of XT and XTR derailleurs on the same hanger with no problems
With the long cage you are more likely to get more drops.
The SGS is really only for triple chain ring. I run a 2 x 10 and also a 1 x 10 with the GS and they work perfectly.
The SG (medium but also called short cage) is for 1 or two chain rings.
I was once told that there are tree sizes Long, Medium and short. But the short gage is for road bike use and the Medium and Long are for MTB
Is this compatible with new ' Direct Mount' frames ?
Torx Bolt is a M7 and knuckle not wide enough
Allen key bolt M10 is compatible with direct mount only
I would highly recommend getting the SGS if you are going to go with the 11-36 cassette
