About Front Derailleurs
Various derailleur systems were designed and built as far back as the late 1800s. A French bicycle tourist, writer and cycling promoter Paul De Vivie (1853-1930), invented a two speed rear derailleur in 1905 which he used on forays into the Alps, and we wonder if 20 gears are enough. Since then there has been many advancements in the number of gears, materials and reductions in weight. Wiggle lists a large selection of front and rear derailleurs catering for double and triple systems with 7, 8, 9, 10 and even 11 speed cassettes.

Magazine reviews for Shimano Tiagra 4503 Triple 9 Speed Front Derailleur
Review from Cycling Plus
The front mech hasn't escaped the re-design process and improvements include increased stiffness to reduce snatching when shifting from small to large chain rings. While the new mech is slightly better than the outgoing version, you'll still need to toe the railing edge of the cage plate slightly outwards to get a snatch-free shift. The FD-4500 version that is intended for use with double chainsets has a short cage plate that is compatible both with normal and compact chainsets.
In conclusion...
More precise and stiffer than its predecessor, this is a good start for the set.
