I was looking for a 10 speed 12-30 cassette. What are the gear sizes on this item?

Answer:
This is 12-28. If you go for a 12-30 you may need to change the rear derailleur cage as well. Check it.

Yes, you should be able to. I had no problem running it on my 105 5700 short cage cassette. You may need to adjust the B screw slightly so that there is a 4-5 mm clearance between the top jockey wheel of the RD and the 30 tooth chain ring.

probably should get a new chain too, however give it a try and if there is skipping when you put the power down then simply order a new chain

normally, you need to change the chain that will be a little too short, but me, but if I order another chain, I leave the old and the difference is very small, even if wear is faster

Answer:
The first and easiest thing to do is to swop your 12-28T to 12-30T 4600 cassette and see how you get on with it. I have done this with my own bike and found it did help having a lower gear of 34 - 30. Just remember to adjust the B Tension screw on the RD to give the correct clearance between the 30T sprocket and the guide pulley wheel. Also check your chain is still long enough if you use the 50 - 30 combination.

Answer:
Standard practice with replacing cassettes usually suggests replacing the chain at the same time to keep wear patterns consistent. Chainrings tend to last a little longer, but it might be worth swapping all the components at the same time so you're not constantly renewing components with uneven wear rates.
The other thing to note is that the rear derailleur might need recalibration if it's a short-cage model, as these tend to accommodate a maximum sprocket size of 30T so it would be right on its' limit.

Hi. I've got Focus Izalco Pro 4.0 with 53x39 and ultegra 6700 rear mech. As I've signed up for Endurance event I need to lower my gears a bit-can I use this cassette in 12-30t option?
I know that Shimano says 28t max but then why do they make these? I don't want to buy compact crankset as I'm fine with 53x39 but the endurance event will be tough...
Many thanks.

Answer:
My new road bike came fitted with a Ultegra RD-6700 SS short cage rear derailleur and a 12-28T Tiagra CS-4600 cassette. I swopped this for a 12-30T cassette. My bike is a 2013 model and the outer guide pulley cage, by the top jockey wheel is stamped 30T, contrary to what the Shimano documentation states about 28T being the largest sprocket recommended. I suggest you check yours. You need to adjust the B Tension screw in (clockwise) to get the top guide pulley wheel to clear the bigger 30T sprocket, otherwise when you try and shift into the 27T, 30T sprockets the derailleur will foul (overlap) and jam the transmission leading to expensive damage.

I use this cassette with my spare set of wheels for mountain climbing. My bike has a Ultegra di2 groupset with compact cranks My lbs where I bought my bike said it would work fine and it works perfectly. Shimano tend to be a bit conservative in their rds ability to engage larger cassettes. Anyway these cassettes are such great value that they are worth a try.

Answer:
I can confirm that to fit the 30t cassette you would need to change to one of the new wide gear rear dérailleurs like the Shimano RD-6700 Ultegra SS Rear Derailleur which can go to a 30t. I hope this helps.

How many of the sprockets are fixed together? I have a 105 at present where all but the top three sprockets are individual. The stress concentration due to individual sprockets is digging into my hope free hub and I want a cassette which will spread the load.

I have a 10yr old Giant mountain bike that currently has a 8 speed cassette. I have a brand new 10 speed Shimano CN 5701 chain never been used. I have been told that I can change my current 8 speed cassette (which is warn out) with the Tiagra 4600 10 speed cassette that will be compatible with the CN 5701 chain. Is this correct?
If this is correct what tools would you recommend that I need to remove the current cassette with?
Any advice you can provide will be most welcome.

Answer:
To change from an 8 speed drive train to a 10 speed will require a complete overhaul of your groupset. If you simply fit the 10 speed cassette and chain, these components will not be compatible with the 8 speed chainrings, derailleurs or shifters I am afraid.
For further advise on upgrading your groupset, please contact us directly using sales@wiggle.co.uk and we should be able to help further.

will this cassette work with this wheel?
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-wh-r501-clincher-rear-wheel/
Also is this cassette the same as a Shimano Tiagra 12x30, 10-Speed cassette? I'm looking to buy a new wheel and cassette for my turbo trainer, and I'd like to get one as close to my current set as possible to make sure it is compatible.
I currently have: Shimano Tiagra 12x30, 10-Speed on a Giant S-R2, Double Wall wheel.

Answer:
Yes, it will work with that wheel. That cassette is also a Tiagra cassette, which should be what you currently have. If you have a 10-speed Tiagra cassette, yours is a 4600 model (because the 4500 old model is 9-speed), so it is the same cassette.

Hi, bought a Focus Cayo Triple from you with rear 105 cassette of 12-27 running on Concept hub (Order No 6204904292). I want to change cassette to this Tiagra 12-30 but am worried that it may not fit if my freehub is a 10 speed only. See Nickdos review 1 Oct 2012 who said "This also means if you have a "10 speed only" hub, this cassette wil not fit, you need a 8/9/10 speed hub." I am confused by this and not sure if my hub is 10 speed only. Any advice please, or if none, could I buy,try & return if it does not fit?
Thanks
Chris

Answer:
Yes it will, your Shimano RS30 Wheel will have a Shimano Freehub as standard so the CS-4600 cassette will match up. You will need to check that this cassette is compatible with your rear derailleur if you are swopping it with one that has a smaller range of gear ratio's e.g 12-25T.
