About Rear Derailleurs
Various derailleur systems were designed and built as far back as the late 1800s. A French bicycle tourist, writer and cycling promoter Paul De Vivie (1853-1930), invented a two speed rear derailleur in 1905 which he used on forays into the Alps, and we wonder if 20 gears are enough..... Since then there have been many advancements, in the number of gears, materials and reductions in weight. Wiggle lists a large selection of front and rear derailleurs catering for double and triple systems with 7, 8, 9, 10 and even 11 speed cassettes.

Product Q & A
Ask your questions and share your answers.
A search on the Internet will lead you to more information. E.g.
If you do not do big hills you should not need a medium cage and a cassette with more than 28t. If you do lots of hills or hills from time to time then you would be well advised to install a Compact crankset with a medium cage Ultegra RD and a 32t-11t cassette. This will cover all bases and give you no negatives. This will give you lots of speed on the flats and lots of leverage on the hills. Even the some Pro's use Ultegra Di2 medium cage Di2 with a 32t cassette in the Tour de France.
If you are upgrading Di2 10 Speed to Di2 11 Speed bear in mind that Ultegra and Dura Ace components are compatible from the second generation Di2. See my reviews/answers on Wiggle for more information on this compatibility and its limitations. On my Cannondale EVO Race I run an Ultegra 11 speed RD medium cage with Dura Ace FD and Ultegra 10 speed Shifters [Shifters are simple switches so 11/10 speed 'talk' just fine].
The 6870 medium cage is a superb RD which will not disappoint and Wiggle's price is superb. We love Wiggle!
