This Shimano XTR M985 10 Speed Hollowtech II Double Chainset is no longer available although you may find similar or newer versions below:
The veritable heart of the new XTR Trail drivetrain is a trail-tuned double-ring chainset. True double MTB chainset with 48.8mm chainline, ideally suited for XC racing combined with the 11-36T XTR cassette
|Bottom Bracket Type:||Hollowtech II|
|No. Of Chainrings:||Double|
|Use:||Cross Country, Trail|
Class-leading XTR 10-speed Dyna-Sys chainset, integrating the bottom bracket and chainset into a strong, rigid, yet lightweight unit. The integrated design makes installation and adjustments easier than ever with precision bottom bracket bearings spaced further apart, therefore giving a more stable and long lasting BB (than conventional bottom brackets).
The chainset has super-lightweight HollowTech II forged Duralumin crank arms - hollow design saves weight whilst increasing rigidity, with the easy to use splined bottom bracket spindles connection providing a rigid and secure interface between crank and spindle.
The development has resulted in stiffer, light weight and hard-wearing HG-X 7075 aluminium outer and inner chainrings with a highly durable Nickel-plate treatment. The HG-X chainring with patented spike pins give smooth and fast gear shifts under load.
Your chainset must fit onto your bottom bracket! There are currently four chainset/bottom bracket interfaces that you're likely to come across. If your bottom bracket is made by Shimano and it has splines, then you need an Octalink chainset. If your b/b is NOT made by Shimano and it has splines, it's almost certainly ISIS. There are a very few non-Shimano chainsets with Shimano Octalink interfaces so, to be sure, count the splines - ISIS has 9, Octalink has (surprise, surprise) 8. No matter which brand of b/b you have, if it has a square interface, it will require a traditional square taper chainset. If you have one of the new Hollowtech II systems, you will need to choose the exact chainset that matches your bottom bracket. Most MTB chainsets are now 9-speed compatible but these will work with an 8-speed system.
