The Thinswim Comp is a high spec entry level option which is great for recreational and entry level open water swimmers. There is no trade off in the choice of material, Yamamoto SCS coating is placed in key areas to help reduce water friction, 2mm soft material regulates the body temperature while providing added buoyancy.
The Yamamoto 39 (Y39) cell rubber is super buoyant and helps lift the body out of the water. It is also very soft and flexible allowing freedom of movement. The Super composite Skin (SCS) drastically reduces water resistance (friction coefficient = 0.032 comparing to normal neoprene 4.0)
Modern triathlon wetsuits were invented by Dan Empfield in 1987 and are customized to the needs of triathletes, they generally incorporate the following key features which differentiates them from a normal wetsuit. 1, Thinner and/or more pliable rubber near the shoulders. 2, Long zippers to facilitate quick removal during transition. In addition, tri wetsuits have a very smooth, but often fragile, surface. This slick surface helps to reduce water friction and allows a faster swim. Another advantage of a tri wetsuit is the added buoyancy that the wetsuit provides, this can provide triathletes with a considerable speed and energy saving advantage over swimming without a suit.
About the Speedo brand
Speedo produce a fantastic range of swimwear and swimming accesories including swimsuits, swimming goggles, kickboards, swimming fins and pullbouys plus much more. Founded in Australia by Alexander MacRae, a 22-year-old Scottish immigrant who arrived in the country in 1910. The 'SPEEDO' company began when MacRae Hosiery manufacturers, established by Alexander in 1914, extended the manufacture of underwear to swimwear and became MacRae Knitting Mills. This acceptance of swimwear and the introduction of the ‘Racerback’ costume meant it was time for a new company name. A staff competition was held and won by a Captain Parsonson who coined the slogan ‘Speed on in your Speedos’. The SPEEDO name was born in 1928.
