About MTB Tubeless Tyres

Tubeless tyres, also referred to as UST, have the primary benefit of avoiding needless pinch punctures when running at low pressure. They are specifically designed to enable the rider to run varying amounts of pressure to suit the riding conditions. They will require a Tubeless / UST specific rim, or a conversion kit, to be used without a tube. They can however have a tube fitted if they become damaged during use. Special tyre sealants can also be purchased to improve the seal and are applied inside the tyre when installing onto the rim.

Easier than you'd think. Tubeless conversions?? Sounds complicated and difficult. May be I should leave this part to the LBS. Yeah, that's what I thought at the beginning. But if you watch the Stan's web video carefully 2 or 3 times, and also reading the instructions it not that difficult. INSTALL I would say using a compressor at the gas station is the most important part. That will make the install way easy. Other than that, it's much easier than you think. RIDE You can go low pressure, so the traction increases on dirt. Also the tire feels more soft and grabs the surface better. And you get a little lighter wheel that gives you a lighter pedal feel. WEIGHT You won't need the tubes, but you install the molded rim strip with a valve on it . Also there is the sealant. Rim strips are like a half cut tube. So you wont loose weight that much totally. Don't compare with the full "notubes" wheels using "ZTR" rims. CONCLUSION It was easier than I thought. They weight I lost wasn't that big, but the rides was better and increased traction. If you ride seriously, it would be great. If you are a weight weanie, it wont get you surprisingly light weight, get a "ZTR" rim and build a new rim. The rim it self is light, and you won't need a molded rim strip. Back to the Tubeless System Kit, with small budget you can improve the tire traction and slightly lighter pedal feel. INSTRUCTION 1.Clean you rims 2. Keep the rim strips you used with the tube on the rim, and put the molded rim strip to go tubeless. 3. Check the rim strips so they leave a space on the rim hook to fit the tire bead. If the overlap the rim hooks, take of the original rim strips underneath. Add that scotch tape-like rim tape and put the molded rim strip on again. 4. Fit the tire on. Do it with your hand for easier results. If its too hard use a plastic tire lever. 5. Stan's suggests on using soap water solution but I didn't need it. Keep it until you can't do it my way. 6. Go to your local Gas station and fill the air with high pressure compressor. You can use your floor pump too, but it's gonna be a hard work, so I'd suggest the easy way. 7. Once your tire is fully pumped up you can do it again with you floor pump too. Fill in the sealants and re-fill the air. 8. shake your wheels sideways, like your waving with a wheel. That'll seal the tire beads. Do it 360. 9. Leave it for few hours and confirm there are no leaks. 11 August 2010

Great bit of kit Great bit of kit. It doesn't require UST tyres or wheels and would make a great alternative if you wish to have tubeless tyres without paying a premium for UST gear. 24 June 2011

Top product I had reservations about going tubeless, but this product is really easy to fit, the instructions are easy to follow, with a video available to watch on their web. 05 June 2011

Good tubeless solution Really nice piece of kit. Works well, but setup is too tricky. You have to follow all instructions and it's best to watch installation movie on notubes site. Pricey for two rim stripes, tape and sealant set. But still a nice product. 10 February 2010
