Suspension-less riding I purchased these forks as I wanted a no-nonsense upgrade to my commuter bike. I occasionally venture off-road on them and they haven't let me down. They take me back to my early days riding Kona Project 2's. Also a worthwhile investment if you are looking to improve your bike handling. They force you to ride more efficiently rather than just hammering at curbs, rocks and other objects. I would add that it's worth getting some replacement bolts to screw into the brake bosses if you are running disc-brakes. They look better than empty holes 06 April 2010

Great Fork, good price This fork is strong, well made and beautifully finished in gloss black paint. The dropouts and brake posts are good, solid and strong. It's a quality fork at a great price. I'm not disappointed. I used it to replace an old Marzocchi Bomber Z3 suspension fork on my commuting mountain bike. The geometry is nearly identical so the ride on smooth road is exactly the same and saved me about 600g. Don't forget when you buy a new fork you will also need a new 1-1/8" headset too. 03 November 2009

Look good, strong, and easy to fit. Used these on my Cube Reaction MTB to convert to a weekend touring bike. So easy to fit, all you need to do is saw them to the correct length. They look good and give a strong smooth ride, taking in all the bumps on the road. If you are looking for an inexepensive way to replace your forks, look no further. 13 October 2012

Top quality & lightweight As usual the product arrived in astonishingly quick time – ordered Fri night and arrived (Australia) Monday morning. This is a top quality lightweight fork easy to install to replace an 80mm suspension fork. The website described it as for both v-brake or disc brake but the one I received did NOT have a disc mount so confirm before ordering. Luckily for me I needed it for v-brakes only. It has the Surly logo on the front of both legs. However, the one logo was missing a ‘Y’ (Surl) . 13 January 2012

The Axle to crown length of a Manitou Splice Super is around 500mm. The Surly 1x1 fork has a axle to crown of 413mm. This is a large difference and will result in a dropped front end and more snappy steering. The frame may be able to cope with this much of a change but to be sure you will need to contact Giant and request confirmation. I wouldn't recommend using the Surly 1x1 without confirmation from Giant first.

You can if you use a adapter to secure the top half of the rack to the fork legs. The forks do not have the mountings required.

It's the 80mm version. The axle to crown measurement is 413mm, whereas on the 100mm suspension corrected version it's 453mm.

If OK, presumably I'd need to fit slick tyres of less than 2.7"?

This fork will be fine as a replacement for your Manitou forks. You don't need to use Slick tyres but if you are using 2.7" tyres you may have contact on knobbly tyres. 2.7" is very large anyway so most tyres you would use will be fine.

Will 700C wheels fit this fork?

I plan to use this fork with disc brakes. My current non disc fork has distance from drop out to crown of about 395mm. But it would also be nice to be able to use V brakes if the need arose so would like the V brake mounting posts in the correct position. Also is there a touring fork for 700C wheels with disc brake mount available?

You could fit a 700c wheel into the forks but you would have issues with the v-brakes lining up. If you have v-brakes with a lot of pad adjustment you might be able to do this.
