Fit and forget Fitted to my Dawes Discovery 601, replacing the 'aero' aluminium offering that were neither light nor comfortable. The performance of the entire bike has been a revelation with these forks; loaded, the bike is predictable and surefooted even when shimmy occurred on long mountain descents. Unloaded the forks are a joy with speeds in excess of 35mph presenting no cornering issues at all. Comfort is superb over long distances, 100 mile days and the fork has the flexibility of steel to absorb road buzz 4416miles from Bradford to Nordkapp and back and I never once doubted these forks (used with XT Sputnik wheel and Marathon XR tyres) 26 August 2012

good value I bought these forks, had them stuck on the front of my Mongoose 450. And this has taken the weight down by 1kg, coz the old forks were heavy telescope ones. I've only done approximately 200mile on them and they were 200 fast miles. They are very responsive and have a good comfortable feed back from the tarmac to your hands, plus they have a high standard of build quality about them. Very good stuff. 26 April 2011

Fork dance Replaced my forks on my touring bike. I had some old judy rock shocks previously and found them unnecessary and impractical because i could not lock them out and they were too heavy. These forks work well and have the necessary lugs and what not. 27 January 2011

What's the widest tyre in 26" size you can fit?

Are knobby tyres a problem with this fork?

Answer:

You can fit a 2.1" slick tyre in the 26" version of the fork, smaller if you need knobbly tyres but it depends on what tyres you get and the pattern of the tread, it is possible that knobbly tyres will contact the fork so they should be very low profile tyres.
You can use mudguards on this fork of any size up to 60mm, 65mm will be pinched slightly.

I what to match a steel fork to my Airborne Carpe Diem. I'm fitting cantilever brakes. My head tube is 190 mm long so I'll need a steerer of about 300 mm.

Can Wiggle supply a 700C fork just like this but also with mounts disc brake caliper?

I am searching for a fork which is for 700C wheels which has both V brake and disc brake caliper mountings plus bosses for front rack/low loader and mudguards. The use will be touring/expedition.

I had the very fork in steel on my Dawes Tanami, alas a numpty motorist trashed them and I began the search....
You could try the US or Far East, I never found a suitable fork (even Dawes could not supply!) available in the UK and eventually gave up.

Check the existing axle to crown length.These are not suspension corrected and could upset the frame geometry.Surly do two other forks which are more suitable.
