About Rim Brake Pads

Wiggle stocks a large range of brake blocks for road calliper brakes, v-brakes and cantilever brakes. Brake blocks are available in various fitments and compounds to suit your needs, softer pads will wear quickly but are ideal for wet weather use, whereas hard compound pads will last but not offer great wet weather performance. Easy to change brake pads Got these because changing Campag brake pads are a nightmare. I swap out my carbon and ally wheels often and these blocks really help. Shimano brake pads are easier to source. Look good. Only come as a pair so you have to buy 2 pairs. 05 November 2012

Quality feel about these pads. Good stopping power in both wet and dry. Leaves a small, but noticeable, yellow band on my carbon clinchers. That doesn't put me off but I wasn't fully expecting it. 17 April 2012

Very good brake blocks for carbon wheels Even if they are rather expensive, they make a very big difference with my zipp wheels. Excellent in wet and dry conditions and easy to set up. 31 October 2011

Peformance with alloy rims?

Has anyone got any any idea how these pads perform on alloy rims? Are they comparable to the greens? I only ask because I'm trying to work out if they'd do the job equally well when swapping between alloy and carbon rims. Thanks a lot.

I used them on alloy rims and they did a good job. Not as good as the green ones, but adequate. however, I was always very careful to check for any embedded pieces of metal before swapping to my carbon wheels.

Not sure of the performance, but if you've ever checked and old set of brake blocks used on alloy rims, they have flakes of aluminium from the braking surface embedded in the pads. I wouldn't want that scraping across my expensive carbon rims.

G'day, I am using them on both alu and carbon rims and found them to be quite consistent across both. That said, the alu specific pads on my Campag Record brakes seemed to be firmer. I am getting use to these pads however and like the feel of them on both rims. Rgds, Steve

As far as I'm aware SwissStop yellow can be used on carbon and alloy, though given the price, would you actually want to do this.

I've got SwissStop green on my training bike (with alloy rims) and yellow on my TT bike (with carbon rims). Yellow on carbon actually seems better than green on alloy, which is not what you would expect.

Sorry not to be able to help more, but I haven't tried yellow on alloy.

Yellow pads are designed for Carbon rims but can be used on Alloy rims also. The Green pads are designed specifically for alloy rims and will provide a benefit over the yellow pads when using alloy rims. The yellow pads are great if you have carbon rims but also have alloy rims for training and need to change over as the green pads shouldn't be used with carbon rims.

Is setting toe possible with these brake shoes?

Do these brake shoes have attachment system, which allows setting toe (i.e. front end of the pad will strike the rim first when braking) without bending the bending caliper arms or cutting toe into the pad?

Answer:

Yes, the hex nut that attaches the block to the brake caliper has some "play" in it. Loosen the nut, adjust the alignment of the brack block and re-tighten. The concave shaped washer will fit to the convex section of the block to hold it in place.
